Hope Cannady Entertains At Party Hope Canandy entertained a group >f fi lends at a “back to school party” at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs, Jimmy Cannady, yesterday afternoon. The gir’s enjoyed playing games during the afternoon and were rerved homemade cup cakes, po tato chips, bubble gum, tootsie loll pops and soft drinks. Pencils were given as favors. Guests included Rhonda Camp bell, Rhonda Barefoot, Connie < ox. Melon Hutaff, Dru Hood, Ella Ingraham, Patricia Parker, Shelly Norris Lynn and Ann Mur 1 hy, Bebe Williams, Cirrdy Byrd, Eienda Beasley, Cathy Temple, Martha Smith and Sharon Rose Skinner. Friendly Dozen Club Has Meet Mrs. Wajne Justesen enter tained at two tables of bridge Tuesday evening. Included ir. the group, mem bers of the Friendly Dozen Bridge Club, were Mrs. Vic Anderson, Mrs. John Ciccone, Mrs. Mary Libby Fowler, Mrs. Tommy Har rall, Mrs. Billy Pearsall, Mrs. W. B. Warren, Mrs. James Yates. Winning frizes were Mrs. Yates, high, and Mrs. Harrall second high and bingo. A sandwich tray and Cokes were passed during the evening. VISITING PARENTS S-Sgt. and Mrs. Sanford Woods and children, Gregory and Anita, are spending the week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Re gister, en ’oute to Sgt. Wood’s new post in Alabama. The family has just returned from a three year stay in Alaska. Mrs. Jua nita Ennis, and Mrs. Emma Jack son spent yesterday in Fayette ville. Mrs. Core, New Welcome . Wagon Hostess For Area Mrs. Betty Core has assumed duties as Welcome Wagon Hos tess for the Dunn area. Her territory will include Dunn, Erwin, Buies Creek and Benson. She received her diploma last Friday after having completed a two-weeks ‘raining session at the Welcome Wagon International Training School in Memphis, Tenn., the southern divisional of fice. Mrs. Core is the mother of two children, Donna, 7, and Edwin 3. Her husband Earl, is employed in the parts department at Four County Tractors Inc. The Cores have resided in Dunn for the oast seven years both are natives of nearby Sampson Coun ty. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. j Howard McLamb of Route 5, i Dunn, and Mr. ant Mrs. L. M. J Core of Route 1, are parents of her husband. They are members of North Clinton Avenue Baptist Church. Dunn has been wthout a hostess since the latter part of April when Mrs. Billie Bryant resigned to ac cept the managerial position at Cato’s here. ALWAYS ADMIRED HOSTESSES In her charming manner, Betty declared that she has always ad mired former hostesses. “When I use to see Mrs. Row ena Jer’iigan and Mrs. Thelma Gilbert leaving with their baskets of gif-S from sponsoring mer chants, I have always hoped that someday I would have the same opportunity. It is a great service for the community.” Mrs. Core made the trip to Memphis with Mrs. Mary Ann Myatt of Fayetteville, the second hostess for that city. Sixteen girls representing ten states attended this training period. The Eastern North Carolina Supervisor, Mrs. Emily English ot Wilson, has been working with Betty for the past two days. She expressed delight in securing Mrs. Core for the position. The Job of a Welcome Wagon Hostess is to call on newcomers tc the area with a colorful basket of gifts from the sponsoring mer chants and with helpful informa tion on the town. Betty is not new at the job of dealing with the public. She has formerly worked with Dr. C. D. Bain as a dental assistant and receptionist and as bookkeeper at Barefoot Oil Co. several years ago. For the past two years she has held another full-time job — that of being a housewife. All in all with Dunn’s new hos tess, great strides are being made for one of the most successful programs ever.
