Prexy Names Committees The Hoe ’N Grow Garden Club had its first meeting of the year with a dinner session Tuesday night at the Woman’s Club. Mrs. John Wellons, the new president, presided. The reception hall was decorat ed with vellow and bronze mums in brass containers arranged by Mrs. John Allen McLeod from her garden. The dining table, co vered with a white linen cloth, held a Oouquet of purple and or chid dahlias from the garden of Mrs. Ralph Snipes. The members were served fried chicken, parsley potatoes with cheese sauce, asparagus, grape and pear salad, lemon tarts with whipped 'ream. The invocation was given by Mrs. Wtsley Coates. OFFICERS NAMED After dinner the president read her slate of officers for the en suing year. They are yearbook, Mrs. Lewis Gavin, chairman, Mrs. Ralph Snipes; garden therapy, Mrs. Wesley Coates, chairman, Mrs. Frank Sanders; benevolent, Mrs. Dennis Strickland, chairman, Mrs. Dewey Whittenton; member ship, Mrs. Ralph Snipes, chair man; finance, Mrs. Marvin Ray nor, chairman Mrs. O. After the business Mrs. Wellons had charge of the program and presented Miss Beth Wellons, her neice, and Miss Sylvia Wellons, her daughter. Beth sang “You Be long to Ms” and “That's All", ac companied by Sylvia, who then gave a piano rendition of “Green Fields.” A duet, “In the Garden", by the two girls followed. The program was concluded with an inspirational reading, “In the Garden” by the president. CARGO SHIP SINKS LES SABLES D’OLONNE, France (UPI) — The Spanish cargo vessel Mondalindo sank Wednesday off the Atlantic coast near here. The 14-man crew was rescued by the French trawler Le Progres.
