Releigh Tea Honors Deb Miss Elaine Johnson Purdie, Dunn debutante, who will be pre sented at the Terpsichorean Ball Friday at the R»leigh Memorial Auditorium, was honored at a tea Friday given at the Sir Wal ter'Hotel in Raleigh by her grand mother, M's. Nathan M, John son, Sr. Mrs. Johnson also honor ed- Miss Mary Lindsey Smith, of Raleigh, 'earier of the 1964 De butante Ball; Miss Ann Adair, Er win' debutante and Miss Victoria Doreen Yarborough, Durham de butante. The Eliza leth Room was decorated through out' with stately palms and smi ]ax vine interspersed with tall se vert-bra ncnod wrought iron hold ers with burning white candles. The Jtea table was covered with an' off-white satin cloth reaching to the iloor, with the center ar rangement, a large silver tureen holding long stemmed American Beatuy roses, the traditional deb flower. The arrangement was flanked by two silver five branch ed candelbrum, with buring white ta pers In the center rrom the top of the table to the floor a garland cl greenery circled the entire table. On the four corners of the tea: table a red and white nosegay wa* placed. The silver punch boWl and trays from which the party delicacies were served was complimented with a red and white nosegay in the center of each. The setting for the receiving litife was most attractively ar ranged with a background of palms, smi'.ax and burning cand les. Each guest receiving at the tea was given a white carnation nose gay. The four debutantes were given a small white orchid. Mrs. Johnson’s gifts to the honored guests were silver and velvet pin cushions. Upon arrival, guests were re ceived by Mrs. N. M. Johnson, Jr„ of Dunn, and Mrs. Lewis K. Den ning of Raleigh. Mrs. Myr'es W. Tilghman pre sented guests to the following who composed the receiving line: Mrs. Johnson; Miss Purdie and 1 er mother, Mrs. "John Wesley Purdie of Davidson; Miss Smith, Miss Yarborough, and Miss Adair. Mrs. Donald Mclver Stanford of Chapel Hill, Mrs. C. D. Bain and Mrs. A. C. Parker of Dunn di rected guests to the tea table where punch was poured by the mothers of the honored debutant es, Mrs. Charles Lee Smith, Jr., Mrs. W. E. Adair and Mrs. Ed win S. Yarborough . Assisting in serving were Miss Mary Norfleet Tilghman, a debu tante of 1962 who was assistant tc the leader of the ball; Mary Ashley Wade (Mrs. Marc Ray Burkes), a former debutante of 1S60. Inviting guests to the register were Mrs. Everette L. Doffermyre : r.d Mrs. James McD. Johnson of Dunn. Mrs. Harvey P. Perris of Linden and Mrs. Josiah W. Bailey of Raleigh registered the guests, the table, a replia ow the tea ta ble, held the white Debutante Book, which showed around a hundred and fifty debs and their mothers, friends from Raleign, Durham, Fayetteville, Henderson, Wilson Rocky Mount and Dum attended the occasion. Mrs. J. Lloyd Wade and Mrs. J. R. Young, of Dunn, said the good byes. Johnson Family Honors Mother Mrs. Iola Johnson of Rt. 2, Punn was entertained yesterday, with a dinner in honor of her eoth birthday at the home of her daughter ,Mrs. T. T. Hill on Rt. «■ I Those celebrating enjoyed a picnic lunch spread on the lawn. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Delma Johnson of Smithfield, Mr. end Mrs.Lumus Johnson of Rt. 2, Benson, Mrs. Howard Johnson, of Dunn, Mrs. Georgie Hill of Rt. 2, Benson, Mrs. Hattie Denning of Rt. 1, Benson, also ten grand children and 8 great grandchild ren. VISIT HERE Visitors in Dunn Friday after noon were Miss Vicky Campbell and Miss Ruthie Rosswell of Mar tinsville, Va. The girls visited the Locke Campbells enroute home after a veek at Mrytle Beach. Miss Pho jbe Love White, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Scott White, Sr. of Mountain Falls Route, Winchester, Va„ became the bride of Kenneth Ray West, son of Mrs. Rosa H. West of Er win on Aug. 16 at 3 p.m. in Mar ket Street Methodist Church, Winchester. The Rev. H. L. Wingfield per formed the ceremony before a background of palms, gladioli and candelabra. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white floor length gown with bell skirt which had a V-section of lace in front, long sleeves and lace jacket. She had a shoulder length veil. She carried a white orchid on a Bible. Mrs. Halsey T. Green, Jr. of [ Clifton, Va., was matron of honor. She wore a pale green brocade dress with a bell skirt and match ing headpiece ,and carried a pale pink nosegay of daisies. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Eleanor Miller, Mrs. Ruth Darr, Mrs. Aly ce Michael, Mrs. Margaret Srand field, all of Winchester. They wore pale pink biocade dresses with bell skirts and matching headpieces. They carried pale green nosegay of daisies. The matron of honor and fcridesma’ds were all sisters of the bride. Flower girl was Cindy Bradfield, niece of the bride. She wore a pale green brocade dress match ing that of the honor atendant. Ringbeaier was Dale Green of Clifton, nephew of the bride. Best mi was W. T. Hawley, uncle of the bridegroom, of Cleve land, Ohio. Ushers were W. C. Westbrook end Louis Stephenson of Erwin, £,nd DonaM Welch and Carroll T. Croson, Jr, both of Winchester. A reception was given by the Irsde's parents in the Fellowship Hall of the church immediately following the wedding. Mrs. White wore an aqua lace two-piece dress with white ac cessories and a white carnation corsage. Mother of the biidegroom wore a p'nk linen dress with white ac cessories and a white carnation corsage. Miss Dons Sartelle was organist tnd Donald Lutz was solosit. Mrs. West is a graduate of Jam es Wood High School in Winches ter, and Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield, Mo. She is a teacher at Handley High School, Winchester. Mr. West is a graduate of Er win High School and the Univer sity of North Carolina at Cha pel Hill. He is alio a teacher at Handley High School. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Moses Lee, son of the late Moses and Bet ay (Lucy Elizabeth) Johnson, and his brothers and sisters were hosts to the event. Mr. Lee greeted the relatives as they arrived at his home and directed them to Plain View School for the gathering. Ned wrankjjn Lee, president, was in charge of a short business meeting. A moment of silent prayer was observed in memory of those members of the family who had passed away during the past year. They were: Mrs. Mamie Lee and J. Lib Lee, both of Route 2, Ben son. 'f Oficers who served last year were re-elected for the 1965 reun ion. They are: president, Ned F. Lee; vice president, Clem John son, secretary, Mary Ann Hill; and historian, Ludie Lee Alford. Elder Lester Lee closed the meeting with a prayer. Following the meeting, baskets of food were spread. The tables were loaded with country ham, biscuits, fried chicken, cakes, pies and variety of foods. Approximately 125 members of the Lee family were present for this annual event. Doctors7 Wives To Meet Here The Auxiliary to the Harnett County Medical Society will meet Sept. 9 at 7:30 at the French Hut in Dunn. Speaker will be Dr. Mar garets Duncan of Dunn, who will talk on “Know How to Doctor Your Doctor." Members of the auxiliary may have as their guests wives of guest doctors at the Medical Meeting scheduled for the same evening. ' l Auxiliary officers for the com ing year are M rs. Melvin F. Patricia Parker Feted Friday Miss Patricia Parker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Parker, was entertained on her seventh Wrth c'ay with a party given at her home Friday afternoon at 3:30. The group enjoyed games throughout the afternoon, and bingo prizes were awarded to Mary Sue Satterfield, Lynn Mur phy, and Kathy Temple. Refreshments of birthday cake, ice cream, candy and Cokes were enjoyed by Hope Cannady, Kathy Temple, Lisa Johnson, Rhonda Barefoot, Nan Pope, Mary Sue Satterfield, Lynn Murphy, Sha ron Skinner, and Shelley Norris. Favors of balloons and bubble gum were given. Mrs. Mann Is Club Hostess Mrs. Paul L. Strickland, Jr., held the high tally when Mrs. Gerald Mann entertained the No vus Bridge Club Thursday night.
