Lloyd Kay, a Presbyter ian minister in Benson, is cast in the male lead of Creon in Anti gone, the premier production of the Thompson Theatre at N. C. State. He is a native of Miami, Fla., and has appeared with the Raleigh Little Theatre in “Wonderful Town” and “Lilliom” and has done a var iety of roles in high school and col lege, including such plays as “Ro meo and Juliet,” "Hello, Out There,” “Life With Father,” “The Heiress,” "Theatre of the Soul,” and i'The Last Lesson of Panta lone.” For the role of Creon. Mr. Kay has grown a full beard, which caused considerable comment a mong his parishioners the first Sunday he appeared with it for worship service. However, he states that the cast of Antigone has had far more comments about it. His parishioners are very inter ested in his theatre undertaking and many plan to come to see him perform. Mr. Kay, who is a bachelor, re sides in a five-room parsonage in j Benson, does his own housekeeping | (with the help of a housekeeper who comes in> every two weeks), and loves to cook Italiap and Le banese dishes. He is also a substi tute teacher in Benson High School. Part of his rehearsal schedule for Antigone consists of private con ferences with Director Charles Stilwill. Sometimes these confer ences take place on a handball court in the gym at N. C, State, and Mr. Kay feels that they actual, ly accomplish a great deal jn dis cussing the c|iaragtcr of Creon and in the meaning of the role while swatting the ball around. Mr. Kay’s favorite hobby is mus ic, and he is particularly interested in opera and requiems. IIs was working toward a degree in theatre at Florida State University when he decided to enter the ministry, and feels now that he would like to move into religious drama, com bining the two fields. He finds en joyment and creative fulfillment in theatre and feels that his religious background could be very proper ly used in this element. Mr. Kay sees the character of Creon as a sympathetic one, even though Creon is the cause of Anti gone’s martyrdom and feels that the character is practical and real istic as opposed to the idealism of Antigone. Antiqone will be performed in the Thompson Theatre November 1-21. Tickets may oe obtained through the Thompson Theatre or the Erdahl-Cloyd Union at N. C. State. COLEMAN GETS HONOR MONTREAL (UP1) — Fullback | Lovell Coleman of the Calgary Stampeders who led bail carriers with 1,629 yards rushing last sea son, was named player of the year in the Canadian Football League today. Coleman is a 26-year-old for mer star for Western Michigan. AMHERST ON TOP NEW YORK (UPI) — Amherst, which completed its season last Saturday with a 20-7 victory over j Williams to run its record to 8-0, was ranked No. 2 today in the race for the eighth Lambert Cup, emblematic of Eastern small' col- j lege football supremacy. Temple ] and Bueknell were tied for second j place and Wagner was fourth. DANliEKOUS UAME AUSTIN, Tex. UPI— Souhern Pacific Railroad officials are dis turbed because son>e local boys insist on playing “matador” — using speeding locomotives for julls. The game is to see who can remain the longest on the trades, Jeering at the engineer as the train bears down on them. Last enc to Jump is the winner. The railroad complained to police Wednesday.
