Coach Larry Brown’s y Cougars, finishing a 17-day -training camp here, will begin their rugged, twelve-game exhibition swing with a 16 man squad, headed by Cun ningham, a four-time NBA All-Star, and a trio of former ABA All-Stars in Joe Caldwell, “MUcrLewis, and-Mack Catvin The squad will consist of eleven returning pro veterans, two free agents (Mike Maloy and Luke Jackson), and three rookies (Dennis Wuycik, Steve Previs, and Jerry Crocker) ‘'We’ll be experimenting, of course, during the pre season,” said the 32-year old Brown, pro basketball’s youngest head coach. “We've got to find out who can play under game conditions,” he continued, ’’that’s what the pre-season play is designed for. And what with our schedule, it'll be a stern test for anyone.” Prior to the October 12th regular season opener at Richmond against thfc Squires, Carolina will face NBA opposition on seven nights (Atlanta twice. Lavister Is A&T’s Cage Assistant GREENSBORO, N.C. North " Carolina A&T’s basketball team will welcome a .new assistant coach this fall. James “Frank” Levister, an Aggie graduate and ex forward under former Coach Cal Irvin, has assumed the assistant position vacated by A&T’s basket ball program under Irvin and Reynolds. A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Levister will spend 60 per cent of his ,'time off the court counseling players. The - remainder-will be primarily devoted to aiding Reynolds in practice and game situations. “I’ve played with and know most of the players,” he said, ’’which should help our team's cohesiveness. This is very important viewing our rough ' 1972 schedule. “I won’t predict a cham pionship this early,” he volunteered cautiously, "but we’ll be working hard for Levister . .worked with Reynolds two years and says, “I have complete confidence in his coaching ability and I believe we will be able to floor a representative'team " Levister entered .
