Ina Jones, Benjamin Bagby Capture First Place In Omega Talent Hunt by JAMES PEE1.ER Post Feature Writer i than 100 people witnessed the musical rendings of some excellent young musicians at the 28th presentation of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity’s Talent Hunt last Sunday night at Memorial United Presbyterian Church. Ten accomplished Junior and Senior High School musicians' competed in the. two divisions and their musical competence was judged by Miss Edythe Grady, Mr. Marvin Davenport and Mrs. Jennie Garnett. Violinist Ina Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs." . Cedric Jones of 1506 Dean on cm wcia juugeu me winner in the Senior Division. Miss Jones is a senior student at Garinger High School and chose to play "Concerto in G Major” (third movement) by Mozart in the competition. Delcia Harper was awarded second plaee in the Senior Division for a piano rending of “Spring Song" by Felix Mendelssohn. Miss Harper is also a student at Garinger High School and a piano student of Charles McRae Music Studio. Pianist Brenda. Watkins won third place in the Senior Division for performing "Automne” by Chaminade. She is a music student of Mrs Blanche Oliver. Others participating in the Senior Division were Vanina , Murray, a West Charlotte High School Student who played “Bonn,” Sonata. No. I (first movement) by Beethoven on the piano; and Rosella Clemmons, also a West Charlotte High School student. Miss Clemmons is a piano student of Charles McRae Music Studio and played “Theme from Love Story.” arranged by Henry Mancini. on the piano First Place in the Junior Division went to. Benjamin Bagbv for his performance of "Sonatina.” Op 49 No. Jon the piano Benjamin is a student at Randolph Junior High and a music student of Charles McRae Music Studio -Pttmtst-PatHeta Ann Blakev won second place in the Junior Division She played "Puck” < Kobold) by Edward Grieg She is a student at Hawthorne Junior High School. Smith Turner IV was the third place winner in the Junior Division. The McRae Music Sludio student played "Sonata" i Andante Allegro) on the piano He is a student at Northwest Junior High School The competition in the Junior Division was rounded out with performances by Shari Blackwell. an Albemarle Road Junior High School Sludent who played the piano and is instructed by Mrs Blanche Oliver; and Vernice Brown, pianist who performed "Liebestraum" by Beethoven Guest artist for the Omega Talent Hunt was Darrell Erwin, an U-year-old 6th grader and student of Charles McRae Music Studio, who played the piano with per fection. Miss Jones, the First Place Winner in the Senior Division, will represent Pi Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity in the regional competition to be held April 20 in Spar tanburg. Mrs. Gore To Appear On Opportunity Hour Mrs. Ruth Gore, professor of Guidance and Psychology and Director of Counseling and Testing at North Carolina A&T State University, and Mrs. Pearl Neal of 126 Martin St., will be the special guests on WSOC-TV's popular “Hour . of Opportunity” here Sunday morning, beginning at 9:30 o’clock. The program, "The Saga Of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc ”, is one of the highlights of Delta Zeta Chapters Finer Womanhood Observance. Mrs. Gore, the sorority’s first anti-basileus, holds a national office in the sorority. She will appear in a scene with 20 junior high school girls at which time she will talk with them about the problems of growing up. A few of the many positions held by her are: Editor of Southern College Personnel Association Newsletter; Member of College Entrance Examination Board of the Southern Regional Advisory Council; Member of the National Urban Scholarship Advisory Council; vice president of Greater Greensboro Republican Women's Club, and board member of Guilford County Menial Health Society.
