Photo by Peeler Begins 24-Hour Services Pig Wig Day Care Center by James Peeler Post Staff Writer “I love children, I love to be around them-I’ve been doing it (taking care of children) all my life; my mother had 16”, said Mrs. Lois Brice, who has six children of her own in addition to the 15 she and her staff care for at her newly opened Pig Wig Day Care Center at 1540 New Castle Street. Her love for children and her desire to provide a much needed service to the Char lotte community will be ex _ tended this week whe;n she begins 24-hour operation of the Day Care Center she opened on June 17 of this year. “There are a lot of people who work night shifts, or late shifts” said Mrs. Brice, “and need to have their children cared for at night.” “Some times people just want to go out at night," she added, “and have no one to take care of their children.” The Pig Wig Day Care Cent: er’s new 24-hour service will help solve these needs for people with baby-sitting pro blems. Mrs. Brice says the service will be performed for anyone calling the Day Care Center before 5:30 on the day of the night they want their child cared for. The numbers tp call are 375-1985 or 376-8162. The 43-year-old Mrs. Brice brings a wealth of experience to her Day Care-and now NIGHT CAEE-business. After completin'! a two-year course in Early Childhood Ed ucation at Central Piedmont Community College in 1967, Mrs. Brice worked as Assis tant Director of Brooklyn Day Care Center on 9th Street for a year and a half. She then became Director of St. Mark’s Day Care Center at 917 Clanton Road, a position she held for 4 years before opening her own Pig Wig Day Care Center last June. She has attended more than 100 Early childhood Workhops at CPCC in the last two years and is a member of the North Carolina Day Care Associa tion, a professdional organiz ation composed of Day Care operators who aspire to attain high principles efficiency and advancements in their field. Mrs. Brice is assisted at Jhe _ K% / >a rmii* mvv Center by her 18-year-old daughter Vanessa, who also plans to enter the Day Care field and will enroll in CPCC’s Early Childhood Education course next year; by Ms. Betty Jones, nursery teacher; and Mrs. Margaret Miller, teacher of two-year-olds and toddlers.
