Outstand ing because 1,349 units of blood were collected at their studios during the fifth annual "WBTV-WBT BLOOD GIVE IN ' .setting a new national record for a one-day effort. Donors of all sizes, shapes and colors came from Charlotte . and the surrounding commun ities to give their most pre cious. private possession to the Bed Cross, for free. .< immunity service projects are not new to WBTV or WBT. Jamie Karr of VI A S II spent the day at the “BLOOD GIVE IN." signing autographs, chatting with donors, and doing In e TV and Itadio spots urging potential donors to come to the station to give blood. Jamie was the day's biggest hit There was also considerable prr GIVE-IN" I. promotion, with both stations utilizing their own air, local press outlets, and paid print advertising to bring out donors. On Sunday. January 5, a locally produced "Lifeline." half-hour special was aired on Channel 3, stressing the need for blood donations, and answering viewers’ questions about donating. Finally, on Tuesday. January 7. the two stations discontinued most local pro duction and completely turned their facility over to the local Red Cross chapter, its 250 volunteers and four physi cians. from 8:00 AM until M:00 PM. with outstanding results. Carolinians were standing in line before H:iM> AM to donate, and w hen the doors opened, all .14 donor tables were packed. That’s the way it stayed until after 8:00 PM. .WBTV and WBT are proud of the part they played in holding the “Blood Give-In," and they've already started preparing for next year when, once again, the broadcast Facility will be turned over to Ihe Bed Cross for a day. * « REV.
