CMS To Celebrate National Music In Our School Day

try in celebrating the first
national Music in Our Schools
Day on Thursday, March 13.
..“A wide variety pf school

dramatize the UHal scope of
the music program from
kindergarten through the 12th
grade," said Miss Barbara
Koesjan, CMS director of per
forming arts.
..‘‘We urge parents and other
citizens in the community to
visit our schools on March 13
to see first hand the scope and
the quality of our public school
music programs," Miss Koes
jan said.
.."Our community has an im
portant cultural resource in its
school music activities which
represent a learning opportun
ity available to all young
sters," said CMS Superinten
dent Holland W. Jones. “We
hope as many citizens as poss
ible will become involved in
Music in Our Schools Day so
that music-making experi
ences can be shared by all."

much less visible to the public
than the finished performance

Board of Education meeting to
call attention to the March 13
activities. The symphony will
also present a children's con
cert on March 13 at 12:30 p.m.
in Ovens Auditorium.
.. According to Miss Koesjan,
all of Charlotte-Mecklen
burg's more than 37,000 ele
mentary students, some 10,000
junior high school students
and more than 5,000 senior
high students are involved in
local public school music pro
gram.
..The CMS performing arts
program, which was born in
the early 1900’s with the em
ployment of one "singing
teacher,” now boasts more
than 120 certified vocal and
instrumental music teachers,
she said.
..In the elementary schools,
all students have one 30-min
ute music lesson per .week
with a music teacher. Miss
Koesjan said. On other days,
classroom teachers carry on
some music lessons appropri
ate to their own skill and
training. In addition, many
teachers use music learning
centers where students can
search, discover and make
generalizations about music
on their own.

fifth grade and continues into
the sixth grade, said Miss

2901 Interstate 85 on March 10,
1975.
..The move from the present
uptown facility at 401 West
Trade Street will begin on
March 8. The complete move
of all postal operations is com
templated by March 30.
..All staff personnel and the
Mail Processing Division will
move and be in operation on
March 10.
..“We wish to advise all of our
customers and the citizens of
the community that complete
mail service will be maintain
ed at the post office building at
* 401 West Trade Street,” Sloan
said Tuesday.
