Young At Heart Meeting Focused On Dr. King tribute to the late Dr. martin Luther King, including listening to a recording of his ' famous “I Have A Dream” speech was the focus of the^ February meeting of the Young At Heart Club held recently at the Greenville Neighborhood Center. ~Pr" V ffi 11 il fn l)r ]. W. Smith to begin the cere mony. which was followed by singing "Lift Every Voice and Sing”, a short business meet ing and a reading of the Char lotte Post’s tribute to Dr. King by the Rev. Clyde A. I.ieein who fathered elaborated on the highlights of Dr. King’s activities from the Rosa Parks bus affair to his address in Washington. D. C. . Refreshments were served after the tribute by the social committee, consisting of Mrs. Yallie Parker (Chairperson), Mrs. Ola Jenkins. Mrs. Olivia Mitchell, Mrs. Amie Coleman, Mrs. Emma Elowe. Mr. William Billings and Elihu Alexander. . .The program ended with the group singing ’’We Shall Over come”. Two new members Mrs. Hattie Harris and Mrs. Lutiticia Martin, became members of the club. Other members present at the meet ing included: Mr. and Mrs. George Lyerly, Mrs. Nanny Dobson, Mrs. Janye YV. Hem phill, Mrs. Ophelia Gray, Mrs. Marion Edwards, Mrs. Annel belle McClary, Mrs. Sally P. Kelly and Walter Alexander. Mr. George T. Nash is presi dent of the club. Pilkbury Bake Off Contest Winners The two $25,000 grand prize winners were Mrs. Luella Maki and Mrs. Barbara A. Gibson. ..Mrs. Maki won in the 26th Bake-Off Grocery Products category with "sour cream apple squares". She is the wife of an Ely, Minnesota, retired school maintenance man. ..Mrs. Barbara A. Gibson of Fort Wayne, Ind. won $25,000 26th annual Refrigw »ted Food Category with "easy crescent danish rolls". She is a clerk from the Indiana city. • ..There were five $5,000 win ners. ..The Pancake mix winner was Mrs. Nancy Bullard, a family planning counselor from San Luis Obispo. Cali fornia who won with "Mexi Casserole.” . .A hot roll recipe won $5,000 for Judie Miller, a Mesa, Ariz. housewife while a Connecticut secretary, Mrs. Constance Beckwith of North Franklin, won the same for “easy al mond crunch bars" entered in the Frosting Class. ..The other winner was the Crescent roll winner, Mrs. Maria Tarassoli, of a Truss vile, Alabama housewife, who was honored with “Ham and Eggs Crescent Pizza." ..Sherried Shrimp Rocke feller won a $5,000 award for Mrs. John L. Hungate of Stea ling. Illinois. She won in the General Electric Microwave Cooking Award category. Pilot Sing ers Celebrate Their 21st Anniversary By James Peeler Post Feature Writer ..The 15-member PILOT GOSPEL SINGERS cele brated their 21st ANNIVER SARY last Sunday at a "jam med packed" Parkwood C.M.E. Church, beginning at 2:30 P.M. ..For this auspicious occas sion the ladies of the group were gowned in long dresses of mint green color with dark green lace trim. The male members of the well-known group were attired in dark green tousers. mint green shirts, and beige coats. ..The Pilot Gospel Singers opened the program with the singing of their theme song. "All of These Years. Lord", led by Sunnie Bethea, and their main selection. "When I Get There", led by Miss Jan ice Bethea. ..Numerous singing groups from North and South Caro lina were represented at the gala affair, which, according to group secretary Addie L. Foster, was "the BEST ANNIVERSARY, both finan cially and spiritually, that we ever had." There were choruses from I.incolnton, Pineville, lluntes ville. Wadesboro. Gastonia, Kannapolis.
