Lowe, “Doctor Of The Year," along with the other doctors at a cocktail Young At Hearts Meeting Has Easter Setting ..A luncheon, in an Easter setting complete with Lilies of the fields, Easter bunnies and brightly colored eggs, was the highlight of the March meet ing of the Young at Heart Club hosted by Mrs. Estella Stowe. Mrs. Annie Coleman and Mrs. Marion Edwards. . .The meeting was held at the Greenville Center on Thurs day March 27. To begin the .celebration, prayer was offer ed by the Rev. Clyde A. Lig gin, after which a memorial service was held in honor or deceased club member, Mrs. janye w. Hemphill, with Mrs. Aldriche Ross presiding. ..In memoriam, the club pre sented a program and sung “Abide With Me", and "I've Done My Best", by William McMillan, and heard “When Darkness Comes”, and ex pressions on Mrs. Hemphill as a friend by Mrs. Sally P. Kelly, and "As I Knew Her Best”, by Mrs. Hardy Liston as a leader concluding with a solo "I’ve Done My Rest” by William McMillan. ..A brief business meeting was held after the memoriam. The special guest was the Rev. Ezra J. Moore of the First United Presbyterian Church. ..Other members present in cluded Mrs. Hattie Harris, Mr. and Mrs. George Lyerly, Mrs. Ola Jenkins. He attended the public schools in Rochester, the Johnson C. Smith University, graduating Summa Cum Laude, Howard University School of Medicine and in 1946-17 he did his in ternship at the Homer G. Phillips Hospital in St. Louis. Mo. ..In 1947, Dr. Lowe came to Charlotte and did a year of residency in general medicine at Good Samaritan Hospital. He then opened his office for the private practice of medi .ne. In 1951, Dr. Lowe was nducted. as captain, into the USAF. Following his tour of military duty and following I wo more years of private practice in Charlotte, Dr. Lowe returned to school this lime for the study of pediat rics at Homer G. Phillips Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. Re turning to Charlotte in 1957, he opened his office for the pri vate practice of Pediatrics and has since served the Clpir lotte-Mecklenburg area in the treatment of children. ..Dr. Lowe is an outstanding and superb physician and citi zen as well. He is a member of the Statesville Avenue Pres b^terian Church, chairman of trustee board, church school teacher, and Member of Ses sion (Ruling Elders). He is past president of Charlotte Pediatric Society, member of Charlotte Medical Society, National Medical Association, and the Old North State Medi cal Society. He is co-founder and board chairman of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Sickle Cell Association, board chair man of Independence Medical Associates PA, treasurer of the Independence Profession al Associates, Inc. member of medical advisory board for Children Home Societies, member of executive committee Department of Pediatrics at Charlotte Memorial Hospital and a con sciencious member of many, many other organizations. The Auxiliary was proud to honor Dr. Lowe for his out standing services. .. Laney Jr., is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald B. Laney Sr., of 1531 Capps Hill Mine Road. .. This three-year-old is a very inquistive youngster. His mother, Mrs. Edna Laney. said, "He asks questions about almost anything and wants to know why?" .. His mother is an elementary school teacher and she says she doesn't try to push Ronnie B. but when he asks a question ar s*Vs "What is this Word?" she feels he deserves to know ■nd will answer him. . Ronnie, Mrs. Laney said, has a keen interest in reading and is especially fascinated by words, spelling and writing. ‘It is hard to keep pencils from him. He’s reading first ?rade books," she said. . Seymour Drive Closes To Through Traffic On Monday. March 31. Sev niour Drive closed to through traffic at the Southern Rail way crossing. The closing will allow construction of drainage improvements.
