The report contains six tables, all presenting mea sures of juvenile justice activ ity (or two one-year periods. July 1, 1973 to June 30. 1974 and July 1, 1974 to June 30 1975. Each of the measures, with the exception of one - the table indicating the number of felony offenses alleged in juvenile petitions - shows a decrease. These figures, the report says, "seem to indicate that major diversionary activity has occured within the local juvénile Justice system, pri manly concerning cnndren committing "undisciplined acts.' This conclusion is one that was drawn by Dr. Reed Adams, Director of the Crim inal Justice Program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and Robert Johnson, Assistant Professor in the UNCC Criminal Justice Program. Both professors were consulted about the sign ificance of the MYSAB find ings as they relate to the juvenile justice system in Cliai lutte and Mockl»nbtirg County The following measures were used by the MYSAB to determine the number of children who became involved in the local juvenile justice system during the 24-month 9 period: 1. Number of juvenile peti tions filed against children for committing undisciplined acts or status offenses. There were 556 petitions filed from July I, 1973. to June 30, 1974 The number dropped to 262 bet ween July 1,1974, and June 30, a s:i percent <W<whm> ORIGINAL FASHIONS^ BY SAMMY DAVIS JR.
