Walter Graddy Wins 1969 Car, Sickle Cell Funds Gain $430 The Poinsetta Social Club raffeled off a 1969 Skylark Buick, valued at $900, that was donated to them by Henderson Volkswagon, and netted $430 which they gave to the Asso ciation for Sickle Cell Disease for Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Inc. With the presentation of the check for $430 the nine-mem ber, 23-year-old social club has now contributed approxi mately $1,000 toward the fight to eliminate the dreaded di sease which afflicts primarily black persons. Club spokeswoman Alice Owens said the club has con tributed to the Association for Sickle Cell Disease for the last four years and is an annual project for the group whch also gives gifts of money to the sick at Christmas time and on other occasions. The drawing for the car was held on November 9th at the Upstairs-Downstairs Club on South Brevard Street and was conducted by William David Owens who presented the keys to winner Walter R. Gaddy. The fund raising project was begun in October of 1975. The Potnsetta Social Club, which meets the second Sun day of each month, is com posed of Rachel Harper, president; Geneva Beatty, vice-president; Lucinda Blackmon, secretary; Joan Webber, assistant secretary; Annie Lee Jackson, treasurer; ' Alice Owens, assistant trea surer; Viola McCain, financial secretary; Dora Prileau Sick Committee Chairman, and Marie Spears, social secre tary. According to Mrs. Owens, “The club met last Sunday but has not finalized plans for the year of 1976." maerly Persons To Get Special Tax Exemption By Sidney Moore Jr. Post Staff Writer Elderly and diabled Meck lenburg County citizens can get up to a $5,000 exemption on their property taxes ifjthey earn $7,500 a year or less.
