rules to make it easier to
enter.
Recipes no longer must be
original. Long-time family
favorites also are eligible, as
long as they have not been
winners in national contests or
been published in national
cookbooks or magazines or by

Appointed To
Housing Authority
James F. Richardson has
been appointed to five year
term on the Charlotte Housing
Authority by Mayor John M.
Belk. The appointment is
effective immediately.
Richardson replaces Dr. Roy
S. Wynn who resigned recent
ly
Richardson, 49, is a Char
lotte native and is postmaster
of Mount Holly, N.C. He is a -
member of the Mecklenburg
County Area Mental Health
Board and the Mecklenburg
Youth Services Action Board.
He also served six years on the
Mecklenburg County Board of
Social Services and was
chairman for four years.
Richardson attended
Charlotte-Mecklenburg
schools and is a graduate of
Johnson C. Smith Unversity.
Commenting on his appoint
ment, Richardson said, “I’ve
always resented the stigma
< attached to public housing. I’d
like to make Dublic housing
something people can be
proud of...both the recipient
and the taxpayer. I will also
work to help end the damage
and destruction done to
housing units through strong
management and incentives.”
E. Pat Hall, chairman of the
seven-member Housing
Authority, said, , “Mr.
Richardson is very capable
and qualified for this position.
He will contribute a great deal
to the Authority. I am very
pleased with the Mayor’s
selection.”
Richardson and his wife,
Mary, live at 1739 Northbrook
Drive in Charlotte. They have
two sons.

take part in the 27th BAKE
OFF event in Boston, Mass.,
August 28-31, will compete for
13 cash prizes, totaling $81,000.
Flour is in a category by
itself this year, giving
“scratch” bakers an oppor
tunity to compete with their
best recipes for main dishes,
desserts or breads an<F rolls.
Typical of the kind of recipe
that might be chosen is
Banana-Wheat Quick Bread,
winner in a recent BAKE-OFF
contest. This moist, flavorful
loaf also gets a plus for nutri
tion, by adding fruits and
whole wheat flour to a basic
quick bread.
Hungry Jack Flaky Biscuits
are eligible in the Refrigerat
ed Foods division for the first
time. They can be entered as a
sandwich or main dish or a
dessert. The kind of recipe
that might be selected is
Stack-A-Biscuit Stroganoff.
Ground beef makes for hearty
eating at a reasonable price.
The touch that turns this into a
dish you might serve for com
pany is the topping of the flaky
biscuit halves, glazed a golden
brown and richly flavored
from a baked-on sour crteam
topping.

PJCs Will No
Longer Save
Your License
Raleigh....A Prayer for
Judgment Continued (PJC)
may no longer save your
driver's license according to
Edward L. Powell, Commis
sioner of Motor Vehicles.
Powell announced today
that a new law, effective
January X, 1976, provides that
a third or subsequent PJC
received within a five-year
period constitutes a final con
viction and all PJC's must be
reported by the courts to the
North Carolina Division of.
Motor Vehicles. *■ *■
The new law which applies
to all Prayers for Judgment
Continued in traffic cases
which are entered after
January 1, 1976 was enacted
by the 1975 General Assembly.
Commissioner Powell said,
“This law can greatly aid our
efforts in traffic safety. Prior
to the passage of this Act, a
sizeable number of drivers
were avoiding convictons on
their records by obtaining a
PJC and thus preventing the
Division of Motor Vehicles
from taking any action to im
prove their driving habits or
suspending their driver’s
license. This former loophole
of the law (PJC) allowed cer
tain drivers to possibly con
tinue their bad driving habits
while others who did not re
ceive such treatment lost their
licenses. This law will help to
place all of our citizens under
the same rules.”

The Pilisbury Company Banana Wheat Quick Bread
Whole wheat flour teams with bananas and
raisins in this moist, flavorful quick bread.
1* 4 cups Piilsbury 's Best All Purpose or
Unbleached Flour
cup Piilsbury's Best Whole Wheat Flour
1 Cup sugar
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon salt
l's cups (3) mashed bananas
•4 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 tablespoons orange juice
‘ 4 teaspoon lemon juice, if desired

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and
flour bottom of 9 x 5 or 8 x 4-inch pan. (Lightly
spoon flour into measuring cup; level off.) In
large bowl, blend all ingredients. Beat 3
minutes at medium speed Pour batter into
prepared pan. Bake 60 to 70 minutes, until
toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Remove from pan to cool. Makes 1 loaf.
Refrigerate any leftovers.
If using Pillsbury's Best Self-Rising Flour
omit salt.
HIGH ALTITUDE-5000 Feet: Bake at 350
degrees from 55 to 65 minutes.
GENERIC TERM: all purpose flour on un
bleached all purpose flour and whole wheat
flour.

Applications are now being
accepted for enrollment next
year in all Charlotte-Mecklen
burg optional schools includ
ing a proposed grade one
through nine traditional pro
gram to be located at North
west Junior High.
Applications will be made
on the 1976-77 "Request for
Reassignment" form, often
referred to as the "blue form"
Persons interested in making
an application can pick up the
form at any school or at the

After this has been done,
vacancies by grade, race and
school in the optional program
will be determined.
On the basis of projected
enrollment figures for next
year, limits will be set by

numbers of students who may
be reassigned from each conv
entional school to optional
schools
No conventional school will
be allowed to have its black
ratio increased beyond 45 per
cent or to lose more than one
elementary teacher or more
than three secondary teachers
because of students transfer
ring to optional schools
A lottery will be used again
this year to fill vacancies Irom
qualified applicants
Neither the time application
forms are received or the date •
of any prior inquiry about an
optional program will be a
factor in the selection of stud
ents for optional schools.

ication will be voided
