Bobby Lowery, president of Better Cleaning Janitor Service, was elected to the board of the Central Char lotte Association. Strafford was one of nine elected in the December meet ing of the board. He took office in January and is anticipating an appointment by board chairman' Luther Hodges Jr. to a chamber action council. A chamber spokesman said the action councils are design ed to help the chamber deal with certain problems of the business community. Lowery said the association is most concerned with the problems of uptown Chalotte. He said the association wants to increase traffic and trade in the uptown area NCCJ To Honor Luther Hodges Luther H. Hodges Jr. of Charlotte will be honored with the Brotherhood Award of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Chap ter, National Conference of Christians and Jews. The chapter's silver medal lion will be presented to Hodges at the NCCJ Brother hood Dinner here on February 10. Hodges, 39, is chairman of the board of North Carolina National Bank. In announcing the selection of Hodges as recipient of the annual award, Mrs. Kitty Huffman, executive director ^ of the local NCCJ chapter, said: in r noages nas maae dis tinguished contributions to brotherhood in at least three important roles - banking, education and the upgrading of job opportunities. “Our board, which made the selection of the honoree, wanted to call the commun ity's attention to Mr. Hodges' outstanding efforts to build better relationships among all people. “Mr. Hodges, as chairman of North Carolina National Bank, fostered a number of programs for lending to minority businesses and in dividuals.
