Way Ion Wallace Post Church Editor Our exciting lesson for Sun day is located in the 9th and 10th chapters of Matthew. The subject is "The Mission Of The Twelve.” Jesus came into the world, so he said, ”... not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.” Jesus came into the world on a God-reveal ing, man-redeeming mission, representing God the Father. While.here He selected, He called twelve men to be His special disciples - men who would be His pupils and followers. Jesus called them to Himself. We also can only learn of Christ by coming to Him personally. Jesus gave them power to perform the task of spreading the good news that would be declared, first to the Jews and then to the Gentiles. Jesus still calls us to various works today. There are manv people today who are spirit ually deaf by choice they say God does not call. But, not only does God call, he also en powers us to perform the tasks that he assigns to us. In fact, God does not call us to do a work that can be done in our own strength. Jesus sent out the twelve to declare good news concerning the savior of mankind and the Kingdom of God. Isaiah said that even the feet of someone carrying God's good news of peace are beautiful. - These men were sent first to the Jews and then to the Gentiles. They were told to do this in fultillment of prophecy. It is clear that the ministry of the twelve was more than a verbal one. They did more than just talk, they served. Too many of us today want to be served that call ourselves followers of Christ. Jesus warns ’hem of danger! in serving him - the sure! danger of persecution. Yet. Jesus would not have them fear, so he instructs them to flee the town, where persecu tions prevents them from preaching the Gospel, and go to another. They can expect Defrayal lrom those nearest to their hearts. The followers of Christ cannot expect to be treated better than his_savior and Lord. Jesus lets his disciples of every age know that when they take a stand lor him. they automatically take a stand against someone and that someone may share the same roof with us. The message to us for today is that we can all be disciples of Christ*, it we would only respond to his call and except the challenges ol discipleship. j SUBSCRIBE TO j I THE j * 1 CHARLOTTE I !
