Rev. Orris G. Walker ...Revival leader Lenten Revival Mission Set By James Peeler Post Feature Writer The congregation of St. Michael and All Angels Epis copal Church, worshipping at Christ The King Center on the corner of 17th and North Caldwell Streets, will hold its annual LENTEN REVIVAL MISSION March 7, 8, and 9. The Rev. Orris G. Walker, rector of St. Matthew’s and St. Joseph's church, Detroit, Michigan will be the missioner for the three days of services — -whitfh begin at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 7, with the celebration of a Solemn Euch arist and Father Walker preaching. A Covered Dish Supper will be held Sunday evening at 6 p.m. for members of St. Michael’s congregation and their guests. The Covered Dish Supper will be followed at 7:30 p.m. by the Mission Service with Father Walker speaking on the subject “God Calls, Man Responds.” The subject of Father Walker's Monday night ser vice, beginning at 7:30 p.m. will be “God The Molder.” Monday's Mission Service will be followed by an informal discussion and a Question and Answers session. The concluding Tuesday night service, with the topic “Useful Agents Of The Master also begins at 7:30 and will be followed by another Question and Anwer session. He was ordained priest in May, 1969, by the Bishop of West Missouri. Active in many community organizations, Father Walker has served on the Board of the Kansas City Model Cities Program, The Child Welfare Advisor Board of Jackson County, as well as serving as a member of "Operation Up grade”, a reading program. In Detroit, he has served as President of the North Wood ward Clergy Association. In the church, Father Walker has served as a con sultant to the West Missouri Diocesan Council, as a mem ber of the Social Mission Planning Committee, and he is now a Trustee of The Diocese of Michigan. He has also served at the Dean of the Woodward Convocation of the Diocese and as a member of the Board of Advisors, Dioce san School of Theology. Retiring $90 Thousand Capacity Crowd Witness Galilee’s Mort erase Burn ins By James Peeler Post Feature Writer A near-capacity crowd of 300 was present at Greater Galilee Baptist Church last Sunday for a Mortgage Burn ing Ceremony that celebrated the retiring of a $90,000.00 note on the church at 501 West Park Ave. The church congregation, now numbering.600, had only 125 members when they incur red the loan indebtness 5 years ago, according to church pas tor Rev. Warren McKissick. The term of the loan allowed 30 years for repayment but Moore's Sanctuary The newly organized Men’s Choir of Moore’s Sanctuary AME Zion- Church, 4100 Morris Field Drive, will sing in the 11 a.m. morning service Sunday, March 7. Their appearance will high light a Men’s Day observance. Twenty men were chosen to serve as captains of a drive to raise $7,000. Two programs will beheld to commemorate the observance. Rev. J. M. McCall, pastor of the church, will deliver the morning service address and Walter S. Tucker, president of Mechanics and Farmers Bank, will speak at a 3 p.m. afternoon service. Several church choirs have been in vited to participate in the ser vices. Fund drive captains are Sam McDonald. Jim Sifford, Billy Fleming, Sam Ervin, Warren Moore, William Hill, Robert Hill, Jessie Cooper, Danile Martin, Sam Taylor, Charles Woods, Booker Alexander, Gus Blackmon, E. McClain, William Flowers, Erving Reid, Oscar J. Bid good, Rev. J.M. McCall, and Oliver J. Davis. through the deligience of members and various orgniz ations in the church the loan has been paid off in 5 years. Sinai Baptist A coronation service will be held at the Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church by Knights of the Guiding Star of the East Sunday, March 14 at 6 p.m. Rev. Norman Kerry, pastor of the church, will be guest speaker. State Grand Master Robert Foust is also expected to attend the ceremony. Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist The Youth of Mount Moriah P. B. Church will observe Youth Emphasis Observance at the church. They are wel coming and inviting everyone to come and share this obser vance with them. On Tuesday night a Youth Panel will dis cuss Issues on Abortion, Di vorce, Racism and Euthana sia. On Wednesday night, the Junior Missionaries will be in charge as Youth Prays. On Thursday night Youth Choirs of the city will be on Parade. Services will begin each night at 7:30 p.m. Please come and pray with us for the success of this program.
