The theme of the 5 p.m. program was “Salute The Bi centennial” and the 13 young ladies representing the 13 or iginal colonies and the soror ity members were garbed in colonial style clothing. Master John Arthur McCar roll, sponsored by sorority member Mattie Greee, was crowned King of the Rhoma nia and Miss Twana Taylor, also sponsored by soror Gre ene, was crowned “Miss Del aware-Queen of the Thirteen Colonies”. Each of the winners receiv ed a $50 Savings Bond for their I lunu-raising enorts. The program featured sing ing by the thirteen colony representatives, a Fashion Show and dances by members of Johnson C. Smith’s Beta Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, and dances by Townes Soul Tro upe. The clothes modeled in the Fashion Show were provided by Franklin Simon. Charlotte town Mall, and the Smart Shop on West Trade Street. Sorority spokeswoman Men t2ie Johnson said “The pro gram was a success - we did real well." Approximately 100 people attended the program which raised in excess of $1,500.00 which will be used by the sorority to support its scholarship programs at Bar ber-Scotia College and John son C. Smith University. Participants in the program included: Soror Rubye mcNe eley, who delivered the Invo cation; Rodney Murray, Da vid Hogan, and Charles Ste ward, who recited excerpts from speeches by Great Ame ricans; Sigma Sorors, who modeled styles of the 18th and 19th centuries; the Auro ras, pledge club members, who sang a song; Teresa Adams, who sang a solo; So ror Louvenia Young, who crowned the winners; Soror Louise Dean, who awarded the N.C. The meeting, scheduled for Friday, March 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will be held at the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, Action Center - Second Level, 129 West Trade Street. The Advisory Committee will discuss bicycle issues or statewide as well as local sig nificance with officials and citizens from Charlotte and the surrounding counties. I knew him more closely for lour years as Governor of Geor gia. and I have never met a liner person than Governor Carter. I think I can say without fear of successful contradiction: he made one of the finest governors that Georgia ever had. and I ve known many of them I ve tried to be a friend to ad of them.
