PRINCIPAL HAROLD CLAWSON — With staff at celebration Studious Harold Clawson - A Principal Who Listens Well by Sidney Moore Jr. Post Staff Writer - The key to being a success ful elementary school princi pal is how well you listen, according to Steele Creek Ele mentary School Principal Harold Clawson. . His opinions and attitudes about his job were featured in an article in Instructor maga zine this month. Eva J. Wiley, a fifth grade teacher at Claw son’s school, wrote the article for the magazine which is published especially for ele mentary school teachers. In the article, it is pointed out that Clawson is an effec tive listerner to nearly 550 pupils, 25 staff members, maintenence personnel, coun tless parents and other com munity members. The kinds of things Clawson listens to in clude personal experiences of pupils, suggestions as to how the school can be inproved, requests for jobs, for special advice about personal or pro fessional problems and many other topics of concern to the people with whom Clawson shares his school environ ment. The article said Clawson's ability to listen leads to action. Parents, with some help from interested others, organ ized and supervised a Hallo ween carnival for the school, , Christmas parties were held in each class and a Christmas staff party was held. The kind of cooperation needed to be successful with such projects lies in the abilities Clawson has to listen and communi cate, the article indicates. “Dealing with people is not always an easy task and being a good listener may not solve the problem’’ concludes the article. “But providing the kind of climate where people feel free to suggest, ask or complain certainly opens the way to good interaction - a positive step in working affec tively with people.” First Baptist Breaks Ground For New Church Continued trotn page 1 Dr. Claude U.
