Floyd McKisaick ..Soul City founder Floyd McKissick Is YMCA 40th Dinner Speaker by Sidney Moore Jr. Post Staff Writer The 40th annual dinner meeting of the Board of Man agers of McCrorey Branch Young Men’s Christian Asso ciation (YMCA) will be held Monday, April 5, at 7 p.m. in the YMCA gymnasium. Tick ets may be reserved by tele phoning 394-2356. Admission is *6 per person. Guest speaker for the occas sion will be Soul City develop er and founder Floyd McKis sick. He is a graduate of N.C. Central University and earned a law degree from the Univer sity of North Carolina. His specialty is Constitutional Law. As founder of Soul City. wui kcu UIU1I lllgiy against overwhelming odds to get former N.C. Governer Robert Scott, former Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary George Romney and other govern ment and private groups to agree to a $14 million guaran tee for Soul City bonds. The first step in the growth of black economic equality as advocated by McKissick. The project is the first guarantee ever for a new town primarily sponsored by black enterprise' and the first “free standing” new town guarantee by HUD McKissick is also an author and a sought after public speaker. His book, “Three Fif ths of a Man," is in its second printing by publisher McMil lan. He is a former national chairman of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE). As the senior partner of the law firm of McKissick and Berry of Durham and later as the senior partner of McKis _ i n.'._i : i_ a WIU V, IIIO IIIVUIVCIIIUIl in civil rights cases establish ed him as an authority in that area. He successfully repre sented record numbers of in dividuals of all races as well as the business community, unions and industry. During this preiod he directed the affairs of the Durham Chapter of CORE. He was the state advisor of the NAACP Youth Group and led the Durham Business League and Profes sional Chain. W.
