There are musicians here that I have followed for many years, and it has been a pleasure to see and experience their growth. These musicians whose musical endeavors have taken them to all :• corners of this country and whose time and efforts to that end have been judiciously concen : trated, are giving the benefit of their knowledge t and wisdom to younger musicians. It is this j unselfish attitude plus the ability possessed by :• these individuals that has made Charlotte’s .; music scene great. I had the opportunity :to be in the presence of i^some of these musical wizards recently during a jam session at the iDouble Door Inn on In independence Blvd. In cluded in this group of .players were Michael .Porter on flute, Bryan [Paris on steel piano, J. Gerard Benson on bass, ijjerry McJenkins on ;percussions, Vincent ^Pope on Guitar, Juici Carter on piano and sax and Matt * reeman or strumpet. These dudes gave real solid perfor •mances on Such original tunes as “Osayea” j written by Porter, "2176” written by Carter and i“Chant of a Long Time Ago” written by Parris. > Whenever you want to hear some real original sfunky music, keep in touch with “What’s Hap i^pening,” and we’ll tell you who? what? when? sand where to cut into these local musicians. By s the way, the Astrology Lounge on Mint St. hosts a -jazz jam every Sunday night featuring a variety ;of local talent.
