Church News Briefs Mrs. T. W. Samuels Is Mount Moriah Primitive Baptist Church Sneaker me women ot the Greater Mount Moriah Primitive Bap tist Church, 747 West Trade Street, will celebrate their an nual Women’s Day Service on Palm Sunday, April 11, begin ning with Sunday School at 9:45 A.M. The women of the church have chosen as their theme, t “Faithfulness to the Cause.” The 3 P.M. speaker will be Mrs. Juanita Gibson Samuels, wife of Elder T. W. Samuels. She is a North Carolinian Charlottean by adoption and she is a native of Miami, Dade County, Florida where she re ceived her elementary anc high school education. She at tended Bethune Cookman Col lege. For 15 years Mrs. Sam uels administered the Happj Days Kindergarten in Eustis Florida, and was an active member of Florida Associ ation on Children Under Six and Southern Association on Children Under Six. Currently she is employed in early child hood education at the Wee One’s Paradise Day Care Cen ter of Charlotte. In August, 1975 she won-the coveted title of “Mother of the Year” of the National Primi tive Baptist Church. Her obli gations at Mt. M Peace Baptist Congress The annual Spring Institute held by the Mt. Peace Sunday School & Baptist Training Un ion Congress of Christian Ed ucation is convening this Mon day through Friday, March 29th through April 2, with St. Paul Community Baptist Chu rch where Rev. R.M. Young serves as paster. The Mt. Peace Congress is an auxiliary to the Mt. Peace Missionary, Baptist Associa tion and is the teaching arm of ■the association. The courses being offered are approved by the national Council of Chur ches and the same credits that are recieved at the national Congresses are obtainable in this institute. The Mt. Peace Association is composed of 42 churches with Dr. J. Arthur White serv ing as Moderator and Mr. James Lawrence serving as Secretary. The Mt. Peace Con gress is composed of the same churches with Dr. H.S. Diggs serving as President, Mrs. S. W. White serving as Secre tary, and Rev. Paul W. Drum mond serving as Dean. A special message will be | delivered on Friday evening by Rev. R.T. State Department of Public Instruc tion's Division of Cultural Arts. The program will bring into local schools Peg Leg Sam, a harmonica player; Andy Cohen, guitatist and pianist; and a bluegrass band. The program, which began in the spring of 1974, is design ed to give shcool students a chance to become a part of their musical heritage. Sett ings are provided so that stu dents may meet, mingle and talk with the musicians. The music and the musi cians have a direct oral and aural lineage to the beginn ings of music in the state.
