San Francisco 49ers Pick Johnny Miller ••’*** fit ** Vi Johnny Miller ^BeansMineman Livingstone College All American Johnny Miller was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the 14th round of the National Football League's college draft yesterday. Miller, a 6-2, 240-pounder from Ellerbe, was drafted as a linebacker. He played nose guard for Livingstone's po werful defensive unit. Miller, co-captain of the Fighting Bears, earned nu merous honors during his ca reer. In addition to making All-America as a senior, he was All-Central Intereolle giate Athletic Association ICIAA' as both a junior and senior Miller was selected player of the month in October by Black Sports Magazine. He was the CIAA's defensive player of the week for his play in the Virginia State game. Livingstone coach Baxter Holman considers Miller an excellent pro prospect be cause of his size, strength and speed He has been clocked in 4.8 seconds in the 40-yard dash Another Livingstone stand out. Larry Lee, who starred at linebacker for the Bears, is expected to be signed by the Denver Broncos as a free a gent on Monday. Lee. who hails from Ft. Pierce, Fla., also is an All CIAA performer. Roger Coleman, who will be Independence Blvd To Be Improved RALEIGH, April 6 -- North Carolina Department of Tran sportation (DOT) officials will hold another public informa tional meeting in Charlotte next week to present alterna tive corridor locations for im provements to East Indepen dence Boulevard (US 74) from the Northwest Freeway to the proposed Outer Belt Loop near Matthews. Results of a recent complet ed public opinion survey con cerning the proposed improve ments will also be presented. The meeting, scheduled for April 15 at 7:30 p.m„ will be held in the Banquet Room at the Century Inn (formerly the Downtowner Motor Inn) loca ted at 3024 East Independence Boulevard. The purpose of the meeting is to inform Mecklenburg County of the alternative cor ridor locations nresentlv un der consideration and to soli cit public comments. The alternative locations were developed .by Hensely Schmidt, Inc., a consulting firm retained to prepare a combined route location re port and Environmental Im pact Statement on the project.
