Mayfield Memorial Baptist Church Plans Special Easter Services The M A V field Memrtnni — ^ Baptist Church, located at 700 Sugar Creek Road West, will begin its Easter Services with Sunrise service at 6 a.m. The Spiritual Choir will lead in the singing of Easter Hyms and the senior Ushers will serve as hosts for the early morning worship service. Rev. H. S. Diggs, Pastor of the church will deliver the message at the 6 and 11 a.m. services. Breakfast will be served at 7:15 \,tA. with the eveready Hostess Committee of the church in charge of prepara tions. etc., Sunday Church School will be held at 9:30 A.M. with departments'and classes for all age groups. The Spiritual and Hymn Choirs will sing at the 11 A.M. Worship hour and Senior Ush ers will serve as hosts. Baptist Training Union will be held at 5 P.M. and the 6 P.M. worship service will feature the Young Adult Choir in the Presenta tion of an Easter Cantata enti tled “Hallelujah For The Cross”. The cantata was writ ten by John W. Peterson. There will be such selections a° “O Sacred Head Now Wounded" with Mrs. Carol Shields, Miss Gardenia Dalton and Willie Wilkes as soloists, and “Hallelujah for The Cross” with Bobby Shields as soloist. Other featured soloists will be Mrs. Bettye Wilkes, Mrs. Frances Hamlin, and Miss Vanessa Belk. The guest soloist will be Miss Carolyn McCullum, who is the Choir Director of Geth semane Baptist Church of Charlotte and Friendship Ju nior College of Rock Hill, South Carolina. Miss McCul lum earned an A.B. Degree in Music froni Johnson C. Smith and the University of Michi gan. This promises to be a very inspiring program and one that will be long remembered. Rev. H. S. ZION The South Mecklenburg High School Concert Choir, one of the county’s most out standing choral groups, will perform at the Gethsemane AME Zion Church, May 2, at 5 p.m., under the directon of Dennis Stabler. The activity is being spon sored by the Christian Educa tion Department. Carl Hunt, the Christian education moderator feels quite fortunate to have sche duled the performance, and thus feels cultural group acti vities are necessary for the church congregation. “Activi ties such as the scheduled choral performance serve a number of purposes’’ states Hunt. He continues “The con gregation is able to meet to gether other than the regular Sunday service, they are ex posed to necessary cultural activities, and most important we are able to offer an invita tion to all congregations for an excellent program.’’ Mr. Hunt is hoping all congregations will take advantage of the program. The South Mecklenburg High School choir has a fine reputation. They have per formed at campuses, at civic clubs, shopping centers, con ventions and other community churches. The choir recently received a superior rating at the 1976 N.C. State Choral Contest held at Ovens Audito rium and will be represented in the all-State Chorus in Greensboro in May. FIRST CHURCH OF COD Rev. Lester T.
