The YMCA Board of Direc tors has named Worth Wil- J liamson, Vice-President and I Metropolitan Area Director of 1 North Carolina National * Bank, as general chairman of the campaign to raise $448,093 needed to build the new facili ty Donations given over a two year period, Williamson said, will come mainly from Char lotte’s 11,000 YMCA members and from local businesses. * iicii V.UUU luuuuiid aic la A deductible. Scheduled to be completed in January, 1977, the new gymnasium has been infor mally dubbed "The Diamond Gym” in honor of the YMCA'S 75th birthday of community service to the Charlotte area. The local Y, organized in 1902, was the first YMCA IN North Carolina. Charlotte has more YMCA members than any other Southeastern city except Houston, according to Micki G. Riddick, Executive Director of the local Y. A meeting will be held Wed nesday, April 14 at 8 p.m. at the Park Road YMCA to up date members on the plans to build the new gym. The news media are invited to attend the one-hour meeting that will fea ture a slide presentation. The new, fully-equipped . , gym will enable the YMCA to I increase its physical activity ] progratris by 40 per cent, Mi*s. | Riddick said.Pencing, gym nastics, volleyball, basketball, badminton and tennis are a mone the vigorous snorts that will be played in the new facility. Mrs. Charlotte M. Watkins, President of the YMCA Board of Directors, said the gym will give local women and girls more opportunity to partici pate in team sports. The YMCA will continue to make its facilities available to men and boys, she said. Communi ty groups would also be able to rent the gym. Architectural firm for the | new building is J. N. Pease * associates, the same firm that I designed the present Park S Road YMCA building complet- j| ed in 1967. Plans for the origi-1 nal structure included a gym I but rising construction costs ’ prohibited it from being built at that time. The YMCA’S capital funds campaign has been approved q by the United Community Services which provides a por tion of the Y’s operating bud get. Donations can be made pay able to the YMCA Building Fund, 3400 Park Road, Cha'V lone, n.v*. • i THIS WEEK’S SPECIAL t toLpurlid: FOOD FREEZER JUST 28” WIDE, $249.95 Remount Appliance & Furniture 1900 Remount Rd. 334-8530 ALL STEAKS AND ROASTS AT WINN-DIXIE ARE U.S. CHOICEI HARVEST FRESH FLORIDA VALENCIA ORANGES r CALIFORNIA SUNRIST NAVil ORANGES_5 l« $100 VIRGINIA WINESAP APPLES.
