Bummers Wallop Rangers The Charlotte Bummers slammed 16 hits and produced 22 runs to defeat the Morris Field Rangers, 22-7, in a Tri ple County Semi-pro League baseball game Sunday after noon. It was the first setback of the year for the losers and the fifth victory of the year for the winners, who roughed-up five ranger pitchers with their big gest offensive explosion of the campaign. Duke Pitts led the attack with a single and three-run homer while Alfred Thompson was setting the pace for the losers with a triple, a single and four rbi’s. i nompson also supplied the biggest offensive punch to the Rangers’ 12-1 verdict over the Morning Grove Hawks in a league encounter Saturday af ternoon. The little second sacker clouted a home run and a double while accounting for five runs driven in. Londell McClary and Rudy F. Us each contributed two hits to the 13-hit assault on two Hawks hurlers while Roger Coleman was notching his first victory of the year with a 6-hit pitching performance. Falls had two doubles and a single and McClary hit two singles and one double. Mur phy Morris and Charley Hous ton chipped in two hits apiece. The Rangers wUl return to the diamond with league con test here Saturday and Sunday afternoons. They meet the Ro yal Bums at West Charlotte High School on Saturday and play host to the Charlotte Chiefs at Harding High School Sunday afternoon. Hawks Face Hoskins At Harding Manager Walter Cuthbert son will send Raymond Black mon against the Hoskins Gi ants Saturday afternoon at Harding High School’s Athle tic Field. The contest is listed as the “Game of the Week” in Triple County Semi-pro League act ion. Both clubs are leading their respective divisions with 5-1 records. It will be the first meeting of the year between these two bitter rivals. The Giants, who lose an early decision to the Morris Field Rangers, expect to have Willie Dixon ready for the encounter. Both Dixon and Blackmon are unbeaten. Hoskins has a powerful line up with Willie Hancock, James Withers, Jerry Alexan der, Johnny Metis and Victor White among the standouts. Cuthbertson’s crew have feared hitters in Palmer Gil more and Roosevelt Davis, who have clouted six home runs in as many games this season. With teams competing in three divisions. Burton’s crew registered 128 points to walk away with title honors for the fourth consecutive season. The local Boy’s Club am massed 22 points to tie for first place in the 12 and under division, 55 points to capture first place in the 15 and under section, and 51 points to take first place in the 18 and under division. Calvin Seegars, who was kept busy participating in the 100 yard dash, the 50 yard dash, the shot put and anchor ing the mile relay team, was named the Meet’s Most Valu able Individual. Heath cap tured first place in the high jump and the triple jump while Surratt was coming home ahead of the field in the 440, was second in the 50 and second in the 100. In the 18 and under bracket, the 880 quartet of William Heath, Ronnie Tay lor, Pete Lattimore and David Lomax raced ahead of the field and Jerry Edwards, Clyde Watts, Mike McCombs and Sylvester Surratt took the mile relay event with ease, according to Mr. Burton.
