Owens, (who recently com pleted her work for the mas ters degree in music), promis es this to be the biggest an best concert that they hav presented since her election t this position 6 years ago. Berean The Berean Seven Day Ad ventist Church will hold its annual Ladies Day Program here this weekend. Gospel Program To Feature Six Famous Groups Rev. H. C. Pugh, who is ar expert at this sort of thing, anc Odell Carrouthers, popular deacon at Temple Chapel Church, have put together what they believe to be “one 01 the finest gospel of all times.' As a result, Sunday after noon’s “Big Gospel Singing Program” at Robert Kennedy Junior High School on Banks Street will feature four local groups, along with some fa mous groups from as far away as Miami, Fla. Elder Steel, who is consi dered one of the areas great est evangelists will be the special speaker. He hails from Maxton and is renowned fore his work with the Highway Gospel Hall. The program will be head lined by the Florida Spiritua laires and the very popular Heaven Bound Q.T. of Char lotte. Other groups that wil appear on the program, which starts at 3 p.m., are the Cara van Gospel Singers of Colum bia, S.C., The Wondering Stars of Monroe, and the Spiritual Harmonizing of Lancaster, S. C. Charlotte groups scheduled to appear are The Metrolina Singers, The Mighty Stars of Harmony and the Temple Chapel Gospel Singers. In addition to some great singing, the program offers first, second and third door prizes. Mrs. Black is an outstanding Bible worker and religious leader, and has been a Seven th Day Adventist for 38 years, served every office in the church except that of Elder, has been a Bible worker with her brother, Elder C.D. Brooks, this lady has worked in Philadelphia twice, Cleve land, Ohio, Cincinnati, Ohio, Columbus, Ohio, Washington, D. C., New York City, Greens boro and Charlotte. Mrs. Black states, "The greatest pleasure in her life is to look in the faces of precious people won to the Kingdom of God." Dr. R.C. Connors, pastor of Berean Seventh Day Adven tist Church and the ladies of the church invite you to attend their program. There will be awards given to the ladies raising the high, est amount for the program, on Sunday evening 7:00 at the church, located at 1801 Double Oaks Road. Ebenezer Dr. A.B. Sutton of Wilming ton will serve Ebenezer Bap tist Church as minister begin ning Sunday, July li. The church has been without a minister for a year. Dr. A.J. Ryans, who pastored the church for 28 years, died last June. Dr. Sutton and his wife have three children. ASC Tops Goal For 1976 Campaign mu- _i M The Arts and Science Coun cil raised $268,316 in the 1976 campaign, the largest amount ever raised in the annual arts drive in Charlotte-Mecklen burg. With 103 percent of the $261, 891 goal, ASC has exceeded the campaign goal for the second consecutive year. Campaign chairman R. Vin cent Sparcklin announced the drive results to the ASC board of directors at a regualr meet ing yesterday afternoon. For the second year, Korf Industries and Midrex Corpo ration gave ten percent of the goal. The increase of $3,818 over their .975 gift was made in the form of a challenge grant to the community to be matched by new corporate gifts. The challenge produced $4,070 in new contributions from 49 companies. ASC president William H. Williamson III said, ‘Korf In dustries' high level of corpo rate leadership was a real inspiration to the entire cam paign.” Of the ten major campaign divisions, the residential divi sion, headed by Mrs. John W. Harris, was the first to report 100 percent of its goal only three weeks into the drive. The divisions and their final receipts are special and ad vance gifts, Robert Knight and Thomas Bethune. $34,598, 91 percent; major firms. Ha rald Hansen. $146,820, 100 per cent; finance and commerce, John D. Hardman, $5,712, 110 percent; general business, Calvin Greear. $12,279, 122 percent, metrolina. Ward McKeithan, $22,039, 105 percent; retail-wholesale, Maloy Rash, $5,220, 126 per cent; service, Jeffrey Hu berman, $8,731, 97 percent. Sparcldin said, “As pleased as we are with the results of the campaign, the need is far greater. The challenge is to improve on what we have done. We need to increase the number of contributors and the level of giving to enable the affiliate organizations to provide programs for more 'people’’. The 13 ASC affiliates which will receive funds from the 1976 campaign are the Afro American Culture and Service Center, American Guild of Or ganists, Charlotte Choral Soci ety, Charlotte Nature Muse um, Charlotte Opera Associa tion, Charlotte Summer Pops Orchestra, Charlotte Sympho ny Orchestra, Children's Theatre of Charlotte, Commu nity School of the Arts, Little Theatre of Charlotte, Mint Museum of Art, New School house of the Arts and Oratorio Singers of Charlotte.
