Klanders Post Staff Writer Few of us remember the old days when baseball was a segregated sport with a Na tional Black League of superb players. Most of their fame has been drowned through the years by that of contemporary stars like Willie Mays and Vida Blue. However, a new movie, which is now playing at the Eastland Mall Cinema and the Carolina Theatre has re kindled the flame of the days of "black baseball" in a hilari ous, yet serious motion picture entitled "Bingo Long's Travel ing All Stars and Motor Kings". The movie is set in 1939 when Bingo Long, a once famous black pitcher in the National Black Baseball Lea gue. fights the oppressive po wers of the owners of the league and eventually forms his own team, using some young inexperienced players that he's found as well as the dissatisfied players in the Na tional Black League. Billie Dee Williams and James Earl Jones make a very pieasani ana compaiiDie pair who together create the force behind the "Bingo Long Traveling All Stars and Motor Kings". Richard Pryor plays' a comical teammate whosp determination KrpleyBTrtne White National Baseball Lea gue leads him to impersonate a Cuban; and later an Indian. Together, the threesome com bat the delicate odds of chance to form one of the most famous black leagues in base ball. Towards the end, thè film progresses to the era when Blacks were accepted by the WBTV Hires First W oman In Sales Bud Coggins, General Sales Manage for WBTV in Char lotte has announced the ap pointment of Ms. Pam Sterl ing to the position of Sales Representative. White League, thus breaking up one of the most colorful teams in baseball history. The comical stunts performed be fore and during the games can only be compared with those of the Harlem Globetrotters" basketball team. It's an interesting, fun-filled and slightly boosted bio graphy of a man whose ingen uity and respect for the sport of baseball created a memo rable history of pain, laughter, amusing antics and hard work.
