Church News Brie fs Young William Eric Lee Jr. To Follow In His Father's Footsteps UK ramer line son.' An old familiar adage goes like that and William Eric Lee Jr., is living proof of the truth of the statement. The person that he admires the most and the person that is most responsible for his suc cess is his father, the Rev. William Eric Lee Sr.. who is the pastor at Silver Mount Baptist Church in Pineville, N.C.'s Sterling Community. Seventeen-year-old Eric wants to be a pastor like his father whom he says is the ) best father in the world. "If they were giving out Father of the Year awards my father would surely gfet one," said the rising senior at North Mecklenburg who lives with his parents at 6003 Carver Blvd in Derita's Rockwell Park community. Living in his father's foot steps is not easy but Eric has a world of his own and one of his - goals one day is to be a pastor : after he experiences one of the armed services where he wants to be a priest's assis tant Six feet two inches and. 167 pound Eric likes basketball, tennis, golf, and football. His favorite athlete is Kareem Abdul Jabbar because "I like his style." He also likes to work with model cars, run cross county, talk to girls and deliver pray ers and sermons at his Dad's . church. ·: The Bible is his favorite book and he can be seen reading it in his leisure time. His favorite colors are Black, Burgundy and Light Green and the place he would like to visit is California because "I know some interesting people in California." Eric likes to eat also; al most anything goes except squash and broccoli. One of the most exciting moments of his life occurred when he lead the Ranson * Junior High School basketball team to a 12-2 record winning ^ the conference championship. Gaston is also moderator of the Rising Sar Association of South Mount, N.C. BEATTIES FORD-TRINITY The Junior Choir of Beatties Ford-Trinity Park Baptist Church will celebrate their 3rd annual day Sunday, July 25, at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Many choirs have been invi ted to take part in the celebra tion at the church which is located at 315 Trinity Road. The choir is expecting this to be a grand occasion, accord ing to its announcement of the program. Robert M. Miller is pastor of the church. TORRENCE GROVE Torrence Grove AME Zion Church of Newell, N.C. will observe their minister's first Dr. Lee King Heads UNCC Environmental Engineering Dept Dr. Lee Ellis King has been appointed chairman of the Department of Urban and En vironmental Engineering at the University of North Caro lina at Chçrl^lte. , A native of Jamestown, North Carolina, Dr. King holds the B.S.C.E. degree from N.C. State University and the D. Engirt, degree from the University of California at Berkeley. He comes to UNCC from Wayne State University where he has been professor. Before that he was associate profes sor and associate director of the Center for Urban Trans portation Studies at the Uni versity of Colorado. Gov. Holghouser Reappointe Rep. Marilyn Bieeell State Representative Mkri lyn K. Bissel) of Charlotte has been reappointed to the Crimi nal Justice Training and Stan dards Council by Governor Jim Holshouser. Her new term will expire July, 1 1979. Miss Bissell represents Mecklenburg County in the North Carolina House of Re presentatives. Appreciation Service -begin ning July 22 and ending July 25 with a 2:30 p.m. service. The minister is the Kev. Sonny B. Turner. Under his first year of leadership a pastor's study has been added to the newly paneled sanctu ary water fountains, a Bible class that meets each Wednes day at 7:30 p.m. and 20 new members to the congregation, church officials report. Kev. Turner is married to the former Penonia Long of Derita, N.C. and they have three sons, one daughter and one foster daughter. - WALLS MEMORIAL A Pastor's Appreciation Re ception and Program will be held Sunday. August 1, at 5 p.m. at Wall's Memorial ΑΜΕ Zion Church, 2722 Bancroft Street. No details of the program have been made available to the Post. The Progressive Men's Club of the church sponsored a special worship service Sun day, July 18, at 3 p.m. The Rev. R.A. Morrison, pastor of El Bethel and Gold Hill ΑΜΕ Zion Churches of Lancaster, S.C., was guest speaker for the program. Rev. J.T. White is pastor of Wall's Memorial. Lewis Claw son is president of the Pro gressive Men's Club. MT. SINAI BAPTIST Dr. Albert L. Williams, Ma naging Editor, National Bap tist Voice of the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A., Inc., will be guest speaker at Greater Mt. Sinai Baptist Church Sunday, July 25,6 p.m. for Pastor Norman Kerry's 12th anniversary. Dr. Williams is a renowned speaker who has preached in many churches across the nation. The National Baptist Voice is the official paper of 6 million Black Baptist. This will be a unique service for a layman to be speaking on a Minister's Anniversary Pro gram. The public is cordially invit ed. WAYS OF JOY CHURCH Rev. and Mrs. Frank Mur phy will be honored at Ways of Joy Church, 1202 Pilgrim Street. Sunday, July 25, at 2:30 p.m. Murphy is pastor of Truth Tabernacle Church, which holds worship services in the Charlottetown Mall communi ty hall. Coordinators of the program are Queen Estelle Thompson, Dr. N.C. Calhoun and Evange list Anna Mae Massey. The appreciation service is being held to encourage the Rev. Murphy to continue his life's mission of dedicated Christian service, said a coordinator. Guest speaker for the ser vice is Prophet David Mungo of Pageland, S.C. A number of area choirs are expected to appear on pro gram, including the Truth Youth Adult Choir and the Truline Singers. Rev. H.B. McDonald is pas tor of Ways of Joy Church.
