Elected officers were Bobby Martin, president; Jacob Mus grave. vice president; Ra chael Locust, secretary; Mat thew Holland, assistant secre tary; Clarence James, trea surer and David Leeper, membership chairman. A main emphasis for the new slate of officers this year is increasing the membership of the association, according to Bobby Martin. There are about 20 members in the group now. The association was orga nized in Charlotte in Decem ber 1972. It meets the second Thursday of each month in the office of Motion Inc., on the third floor of the Indepen dence Plaza Building at 6 p.m. Meetings feature technical sessions on current issues fac ing accountants. Martin said the group is involved in the _ process of continuously educa- 1 ting accountants. I The local association is affi- j liated with a national organi- ' zation. Martin said member ship entitles an accountant to f receive the national newslet :ter and to travel to regional :.and national workships and • conventions. £ . The 28-year-^ fjit is difficultytoj iadco’u|itaQtsyiif : said most of these potential association members work for ; various companies and agen cies in isolation from each 'other. Martin has lived in Charlotte for six years. One of the annual projects of the association is preparing income tax forms for low income people. This program .was conducted from February to April this year at Friend ship Baptist Church. The association is also inte rested in promoting the field of accounting to high school .-students and others. Martin said opportunities exist in go vernment, public and private -accounting fields. It is exciting work, said Martin, because “every as pect of business is affected by accounting.” Martin, a certified public accountant (CPA), is one of about 450 black CPAs in the country. This figure compares to about 100,000 CPAs overall. « ■ ATTENTION * | Don’t Forget j j These Numbers: i l 392-1306 l I . or | | 392-1307 ! These !
