In case you missed it, our* boy Charlie Sifford flew into town last week for a brief visit with one of his sisters who is ill in a local hospital. The Charlotte native, who toured the PGA circuit for a number of years, was the house guest of Curtis Alexander._ The Raleigh OIC is sponsoring its first annual amateur golf tournament this weekend at the Eagle Crest Golf Course in Garner. The 36-hole tourney will offer trophies to the winners, second and third place finishers in each flight! • The $25 entrance fee covers green fees, food, refreshments and the awards. Thought you might like to know that Char lotte’s Dexter Feaster has been named captain of the 1976 North Carolina A&T State University football team. He is one of four players to be honored with the coveted responsibilities of team leadership. Ron Morgan, Joe Bloomfield, Jea rold Holland and Ron Aiken have also been named Aggie captains. Feaster, a wide receiver and two-time All-MEAC selection, is a pre season All-American candidate, along with defensive tackle Ron Morgan One of life’s oddest facts is that a square mea’ makes people round. Credit Bill Cole, president of the popular Triple County Semi-Pro Baseball League, with a great promotion for his league’s championship play offs. Cole announces the top eight teams in the TCSL will be matched in a double elimination tournament at Harding High School’s athletic field on Saturday, August 28, and Sunday, August 29. Bill has divided his league into four divisions - north, south, east, and west. He has an outstanding attraction in the making. At the moment, The Morris Field Rangers is the only team to clinch a position in the tournament. The Charlotte Bummers, Charlotte Hawks, Hoskins Giants, Charlotte Chiefs, Kings Mountain “A’s”, Charlotte Red Birds, Bisco Chargers, the Royai 1 Bums and the Norwood Jets are the other teams in contention. Billhas scheduled four games each day. The four winners of the two-day tournament will advance to the championship round the next weekend. By the time you read this, Johnson C. Smith and Livingstone will have entertained the press ai_ a luncheon at the Convention Center of Holiday Inn-North. The schools are soliciting the support of the entire Charlotte community for their Bicentennial Football Classic at Memorial Stadium Saturday, Oct. 16. Walter Tillman, instructor in Physical Educa tion and head track and field coach at Dillard University, is one of three Americans selected to ■ participate in the Mexican Coaching Exchange m Program in Aquascalientes, Mexico, August 16-27.
