TV Special To Deal With Swine Flu A thirty-minute television special about swine influenza will be shown on August 26 at 7 p.m. on the eight educational television networks through out "the state, announced Dr. C. E. Buckley, Chairman of the Influenza Advisory Com mittee of the North Carolina Lung Association. Originating at UNC-TV in Chapel Hill, the program will be carried over the following stations: Channel 2,_ Colum bia. Channel 4. Chapel Hill; Channel 17, Linville; Channel 25, Greenville; Channel 26, Winston-Salem; Channel 33, Asheville; Channel 39, Wil mington; Channel 58, Con cord. Vance Henry ...Account executive W. Vance Henry as an account executive in the Chicago of fice, according to an an nouncement by Norman W. Powell, vice president & gene ral sales manager. "Vance Henry brings to us a wealth of sales experience" said Mr. Powell, "and his addition to our staff will allow for stronger sales efforts in the midwest and west coast territories." Henry was formerly special marketing manager for Jack DanJeJ Distillers and Pabst Brewing Co. in Chicago. He graduated from the Univer sity of Wisconsin, School of Marketing. A tennis enthusiast, Mr. Henry is an instructor in tennis at the University of Chicago, â member of the Rainbows Tennis Club and Operation P.U.S.H. He is mar ried and the father of two children. Benson's Album Is Certified Platinum George Benson's album de but for Warner Bros., "Bree zin" has been certified plati num by the RIAA in recogni tion of unit sales in excess of one million. Since the album was releas ed five months ago, it has been a major jazz r & b, and pop chart item with "This Mas i. querade," the first single from the album currently a pop and sou) hit. Benson is currently on a concert tour and expects to go into the studio later this sum mer to begin preliminary work on his next Tommy LiPuma-produced album for Warner Bros. The panel production will feature Richard W. Hatch, Public Affairs Director, UNC TV, and Peggy Payne, free lance journalist, as modera tors. Members of thepanel are Dr. Joseph E. Johnson. Pro fessor and Chairman, Depart ment of Medicine, BowmaiÎ Gray School of Medicine, speaking on past experiences with influenza epidemics and their historical importance; Dr. Janet Fischer, Professor of Medicine and Associated Professor of Bacteriology and Immunology, UNC School of Medicine, talking about im munity to influenza viruses and why repeated vaccination is important; Dr. C E. Buck ley, III, Associate Professor of Medicine at Duke University Medical Center, discussing side effects of vaccina tion; and Dr. John N. Mac Cormack, Communicable Di sease Branch Head, Division of Health Services, explaining vaccine availability and im munization plans for the state. The Influenza Advisory Committee of the North Caro lina Lung Association recom mends that adults with chron ic lung diseases and other high risk chronic disease patients be vaccinated against the flu viruses which are expected to cause illness this year. Dr. Buckley said the bivalent vac cine against Α-New Jersey 76-the so-called swine virus and A-Victoria-75 will be a vailable for high risk patients. A monovalent swine flu vac cine will become available for the mass immunization pro gram later in the year. "Any lung infection can in terfere with the lung's cleans ing mechanisms and the sup ply of oxygen to the body," Dr. Buckley said. "When influen za and related infection occur in patients with emphysema and other chronic respiratory diseases the result may be fatal." A booklet is available from your local lung association called "Flu, 1976-77, The Facts About Your Lungs," and should be read by persons who have respiratory health pro blems. γ red Seaman Is Insurance Seminar Speaker An insurance seminar for small and minority business men will be held Thursday, August 26, at 7:30 p.m., at the Charlotte Chamber of Com merce Action Center, 129 West Trade Street. The free presentation will be sponsored by the Charlotte Local Business Development Organization and the North Carolina Office of Minority Business Enterprise. Guest lecturer for the pre sentation is Fred Seaman, assistant director of the State Department of Insurance Con sumer Division. He will dis cuss insurance matters im portant to minority business men and small businessmen. These topics include accounts receivable insurance, burgla ry insurance, group and hospi tal insurance, and public lia bility insurance.
