The congregation located at 3001 Beatties Ford Road, will celebrate this 12th Anniver sary with two services, under the theme: PRINCE OF PEACE WHY NOT! There will be an 11 a.m. service, with the Rev Bryant E. Clancy, pastor and founder, preaching. The Prince of Peace Choir will sing. At 3 p.m., the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Gospel Choir will provide the music and the Pastor of Mt. Calvary, Rev Richard Koehneke. will preach the word of God with Power and great might. "We want this day to be a dav of Draisine God. of giving Him thanks and of rejoicing in our FELLOWSHIP.one with another," Rev.Clancy said. ® "We have good reasons to be thankful and joyful. The Lord has been good to us. He has blessed our congregation. Our prayers have been answered, our attendance has increased, our offerings are up, we love each other and our Church; and we have come to the time of self - financing," Clancy added. LOTT CAREY Delegates from area chur ches recently attended the 79th annual session of Lott NCCBS Sets Second Conference By Melvetta Jenkins Post Staff Writer ■»· The second annual North Carolina Conference on Black Studies (NCCBS) will be held October 8-9 at the Holiday Inn-North in Charlotte, ac cording to a statement re leased by NCCBS recently. • The conference, whose theme is "Black Studies: Call ing for a New Order," will feature workshops on curricu lum, youth, and job develop ment, research, and training. The goals of the conference include structuring and strengthening of NCCBS, de veloping a program of action on the community and school levels, and getting more in volved with community lead ers and citizens, and school personnel and students. Featured speakers will be Dr. Joseph Kussell of Indiana University, Executive Direc tor of the National Conference on Black Studies (NCBS), and Dr. Sonja Stone, co-director of the Afro-American Studies Curriculum at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. 41 f Registration for the confer ence ends September 15. Rev Bryant Gancy ..Popular civic leader Carrey Baptist Foreign Mis sion Convention in Richmond, Va , August 31 through Sep tember 2. More than 3,000 chruches are active supporters of the foreign mission organization. Headquarters of the conven tion is located at 1501 11th Street, N.W., Washington, DC. Member congregation have been generous to the conven tion, according to a recent news release. Contributions have supported a 14 percent over all budget increase. The convention met at Fifth Street Baptist Church, where the Rev. Rosco D. Cooper is pastor. Dr. J.D. Bussey of Washing ton, D.C. was elected conven tion president. Former presi dent C.R. Edwards was a well received speaker. Rev. ,G.L. Bowick of Pitts burgh. Pa., was elected first vice president. The office of second vice president went to Dr. B. J. Robinson of Rich mond, Va. Dr. Jasœr Free man of Norfolk, Va., secreta ry. Assistant Recording secre tary is now Dr. Charles W. Ward. Dr. L.J. Shipman of Youngstown, Ohio was chosen statistician. Olive, the women of the church was in charge and carried out the entire morning worship service. It was Wo man's Day at Mt. Olive Bap tist Church The morning speaker was one of the women members of the church. Mrs Joann Standifer Mrs. Standi fer's subject was, The Wo man-Faith and Life. The mes sage was very eloquently deli vered. The speech was high lighted with a charge to the women to continue to be sted fast in their faith. The women were organized into groups with lady captains in charge in order to facilitate fund raising for the program The lady captain whose group reported the most in fund raising was named Woman ol the Week. This honor was bestowed upon Mrs Kubv Carr, who has been a member of Ml. Olive Baptist Church for a number of years Although the program vsas initated and organized by Mrs Lucille Mcllwain, and Mrs. Alberta Wilson who is the president of the Woman's Or ganization at Mt. Olive, it was the interest and enthusiasm of all the women ot the church that made the day such a grand and successful occa sion.
