SOUTHTRYON PRESBYTERIAN Sunday, September 12 was Youth Day at South Tryon Presbyterian Church, pastor ed by Rev. R. Hendricks, with the members of the Active Christian Teenagers Club (ACT) conducting the entire morning service. Gerald R. Blakeney, pro gram coordinator for the Up ward Bound Project at John son C. Smith University, de livered a very timely address that enlightened his audience. South Tryon has had young people from its congregation to participate in the Upward Bound Project and there is much enthusiasm among the congregation for the work be ing done by the Upward Bound staff. The junior and senior high school students from the South Tryon congregation who form the ACT Club are supervised by members of the Circle number one of the church. The congregation at South Tryon enjoyed an enriching experience as members of the ACT Club led the worship activities and collected the morning offering, with the young women singing and the juung men serving as usners. Following the service, the South Tryon Congregation gathered at Park Road Park for its annual church picnic. The afternoon of fellowship was enjoyed by all who atten ded. CLINTON CHAPEL Lonia M. Gill of Pilgrim Rest AME Zion Church of Whistler, Alabama is guest speaker for Woman's Day at Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church, 1901 Rozzells Ferry Road, Sunday, September 19. Mrs. Gill holds national. conference, district and local affiliations with the AME Zion Church. She is also an execu tive board member of the NAACP and first vice presi dent of the National Council of Negro Women. Other civic memberships include the YWCA and a De mocratic Women's Group. She is a member of Sunshine Chapter No. 50 of the Order of Eastern Stars. A former teacher, she is presently a government em ployee. The mother of two children, she is the wife of Rev. T.C.
