Educators To Meet Here Tuesday Educators from school units in Education Region 6, the Southwest region of the State, will meet September 21 _ to review a proposed Standard Course of Study being devel oped by the State Department of Public Instruction. The meeting will be held at the Education Center in Charlotte beginning at 1 p.m. The educators will be asked to react to a draft edition of the Course of Study, according to State Superintendent of Pu blic Instruction A. Craig Phil lips. “The purpose of the meeting is to get suggestions and reactions from local edu cators to be considered in developing the final publica tion. We invite school board members, county commis sioners, and other lay citizens ' to join the meeting to give their input,” Phillips addded. The Standard Course of Stu dy is a document which out lines what is taught in the public schools of the State, kindergarten through twelfth grades. Phillips emphasized that it is not a curriculum euide sueeestine snecific me thods for teachers to use in the classroom. It is designed to set forth a standard framework for administrators and curri culum specialists to use in planning and to inform the • citizens of the State about concepts taught in the public schools. During September, the De partment of Public Instruction is sponsoring similar meet ings in each of the eight Education Regions of the State. Suggestions made at these meetings will be taken into consideration in develop ing the final publication, said Phillips. School units participating in September 21 meetings in clude: Cleveland, Lincoln, Gaston, Charlotte-Mecklen burg, Union, Cabarrus, Stan ly, Anson, and Rowan County units and Kings Mountain, Shelby, Lincolnton, Monroe, Kannapolis, Albemarle, Salis bury, and Concord city units. GOLDEN SLIPPER SOCIAL CLUB —With their escort at Anniversary Dance Golden Slipper Social Club Fetes 350 Special Guests The Golden Slipper Social Club held its first anniversary dance last Saturday in Omni Ballroom III at the Sheraton Center and according to club president and co-founder Mar garet Reid, “everybody had a lovely time!” Approximately 350 guests joined the 6-member Golden Slipper Social Club in marking its first year of existence as they danced to the music and song of The Touch Band, managed by Ike Barber, and dinned from a buffet of short chicken arum sticks. Swed ish meatballs, boiled shrimp and cocktail sauce, chips and dips and assorted nuts. IJ'or the occasion, Golden Slipper Club members chose floor-length wine gowns, gold en slippers, carnation corsag es sprayed with a fleck of gold and trimmed with green and gold ribbon, and carried gold hand bags. The members of the Golden Slipper Social Club are; Mar garet Reid, President; Lola Watkins, Vice President; Pa Baptist Association To Sponsor Contest The Youth Missionary De partment of the Mecklenburg General Baptist Association is sponsoring the ‘‘Miss Meck lenburg" contest, along with its Fall Fashion Show at the Greenville Center on October 2 at 6 p.m. The Fall Fashion Show will feature young people model ing clothes from various stores in Charlotte, as well as some of their own clothes. This is only one of the projects taken on by the Youth Missionary Department, under the supervision of Miss Percie Norman and their pre sident, Miss Doris Mobley.
