Here Saturday Slight Johnson C. Smith Hosts Hampton In Conference “Game Of The Week* "They re the most improved team in college football," JohnsonC Smith University's assistant football coach Char ley Cox said Wednesday of Hampton Institute The Golden Bulls will collide with the Pirates in a CIAA Headliner here Saturday night in Memorial Stadium, starting at 8 o’clock Hampton is undefeated in conference play, the Pirates are 2-0 with n victories over Winston-Salem State and Shaw and the Bulls, who won their season opener from Lenoir Rhyne, lost last week. 14-13 to Virginia Union "We will have to be prepar ed to stop their passing game. Cox added, pointing out that quarterback Russell Seaton and wide receiver Reg gie Midgett are dangerous Hampton threats. Cox explained that the Bulls will not be operating at top strength for the important league clash Defensive tackle Ronnie Corley and cornerback Reginald Amos will definitely not play Both players were injured in the Hampton con test Sophomore Alfred Wring wtlfreplace Corley and either Early Williams or Rav Long will fill in for Amos. According to Cox, the JCSU scouting report lists Hampton as a “pass oriented" team with a vastly improved run ning game Cox said the Golden Bulls will counter with the passing of quarterback Ernest John son and the running of full back Ernest "Warhorse" Wil liams. Williams has gained 188 yards with 40 carries to ave rage 5 yards per trip. He has scored one touchdown. Ernest Johnson, the gifted passer who has apparently won the first string position, has tossed 22 times for 249 yards and three touchdowns. He has completed 26. JSecgld Johnson, Demetrius [Parker and Phillip Richardson have been Johnson's primary re ceivers. “We are concerned about our pass defense," Cox stated, explaining that neither Le noir Rhyne nor Virginia Union threw often against the Bulls_L*noir Rhyne com pleted 5 of 8 throws and VUhlt only 2 of six for a combined total of seven completions in 14 heaves. JCSU came up with one interception. “We've got to be prepared for their passing," Cox con cluded. Dr. Smith Returns To A&T GREENSBORO - Dr. Al bert E. Smith, 42, athletic director at Eastern Michigan University (EMU), will resign that position to become vice chancellor for university rela tions at A&T State University. Smith, who has been at Eastern Michigan since April of 1975, will join the A&T staff Oct. 1. He will succeed Mar shall H. Colston, who resigned recently to become a vice' president of the Moton Insti tute in Philadelphia. An A&T graduate, Smith served as athletic director at A&T from 1969-71. Smith’s appointment at A&T was an nounced by Dr. Lewis C. Dow dy. chancellor. He is married to the former Sadie Burris of Aiken, S.C.
