CORONATION AF FAIR...The Alumni As sociation of Johnson C. Smith University kicked Bob Johnson off their annual homecoming festivities with a coronation ball held at the Excelsior Club Wednesday night before homecoming. The coronation was well planned and very colorful, which says a lot for Doug Spears, president of the local Chapter and his hard ( working colleagues. Willie Walker handled the master of ceremo ny’s chores very glibly, while Helen Cunninghan presented the 1976-77 queen and court. The alumni queen was the quite comely Glenda Pyant. While milling around the tasty bowl of shrimps I rubbed shoulders with Roy Ezell, Tom Brown, Richard Maxwell, Carolyn Johnson, Angela Douglas, Gerald Blakeney and Walter Woods. MARDI GRAS FUN...During the homecoming weekend the Pi Phi Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity held their annual Mardi Gras Ball at the Civic Center, last Friday night. Many people crowded into this area of the gigantic Civic Center to rap with friends, dance with their mates, dine on fantastic hors’d , heurves, fill ub on thfcir; f aybrfter bdverage' and , Complain abbutthe lengthy intend^ -■ However, when the lights came on, signaling that it was time to go, the disappointed look on many of the faces indicated that they had and were having a grand time. This Mardi Gras, with about 300 brothers participating, brought people from everywhere. Among them were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Stitt, Mr. and Mrs. Raliegh Bynum, Richard Jamison, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Kennedy, Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Mills, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Casey, Mr. and Mrs. John Steele, Vincent James, Jocelyn Gilmore, Vernal Osborne, Rosetta Fleming, Haywood Polk, Cliff Johnson and Robert Lothorp. HOSPITALITY TIME...After a fun filled time at the Civic Center a lot of people moved over to the Sheraton Motor Inn on McDowell St. to further intensify the fun. Many things were going on at this lavish motel, among them were a number of hospitality parties. One such super happening was spon sored by ABC Record’s promotion sweetheart, Kitt Massj. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Allison, Anita Mumford, Robert McCoy, Donald Egurs, Ruth Vaughn, Metter Collins, Mary Rivens, Charles Hodges and Frances Debonaire were just a few of the people engulfed in the bounteousness of it «U SOUL FOOD FETE...Mutch and Carolyn Evans sponsored a soul food dinner after the homecoming game Saturday evening, at the Shadowood Clubhouse. Stephen Hayes, Hank Washington, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin White, Duffie Hyatt, Bernadine Coles, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Reeves, Myra Maxwell, Raymond Byrd, and Rev. and Mrs. Bob Shirley dined heartily on chitterlings, pig feet, potato salad, greens, all kinds of beans, along with an assortment of salads and bever . ages. ALUMNI DANCE...Even though the game last Saturday afternoon left a lot to be desired for - Smith alumni and friends, the dance that night didn’t. ' For the second night in a row Charlotte’s Civic Center lit up with the sights and sounds of the Realities Band and the frolic of the festive minded people. Mr and Mrs. Bill Davis. Mr. and Mrs. Vinson Thompson, Albert Nelson, Albert Welch, Allen Coles, Clay White, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Jordan, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Graham, Stephen Schley, Frank Fleming, William Joyner, Betty Ligon, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tisdale, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Foster, Beverly Bryant, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Cox, Ray Gooding, Bobby Johnson, Shirley Moore, Willie McGill, and Bruce Strong were just a handful of the throng that attended this gala affair. HAROLD'S DEATH...Amid the light-hearted ness of the homecoming weekend, death reared its head, and called a true friend of mine Harold Harrison. His death makes me realize that each departed friend is a magnet that attracts us to the next world. VOICES or SINAI CHOIR, of Mt. Sinai S'?1,? on west Blvd., will hold their __^^^^^[CERT^Sunday, beginning at 3 p.m. Rev. Norman E. Kerry is pastor of the church and Mrs. Kerry is Minister of Music. Local Omegas To Celebrate National Achievement Week The annual celebration of National Achievement Week will have added significance this year for the members of Charlotte’s Pi Phi Chapter of )mega Psi Phi Fraternity. In iddition to/he usual program, activities will includelhe for mal opening of the newly purchased, newly decorated fraternity house at 3301 States ville Avenue. Joining the Pi Phi Chapter in the celebration will be the members of the Rho Chapter located at Johnson C. Smith University and Epsilon Zeta Chapter located at the Univer sity of North Carolina at Char lotte. Included in the activities will be the Annual Achieve ment Week Awards Banquet. At this affair the brothers will honor the Omega Man of the Year from each chapter, the Citizen of the Year, and active brothers who have been mem bers for twenty-five and forty years. Certificates of merito rius achievement will be given to other outstanding indivi duals. Friday night, Novem ber 19, 1976 is the date of this event to be held at the Frater nity House. The members will be joined at this event by their wives or other female guests. Speaker for the event will be Toby Daniels of Charleston, South Carolina. Continuing the celebration, on Saturday night the brothers will host a smoker in honor of Mr. Daniels who is first vice district representative of the sixth district of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. The Fra ternity House will be the site of this event, also. The Achievement week ac tivities will close on Sunday morning with Omega men and their families joining the members of McClintock Unit ed Presbyterian Church in a worship service. The Rev. W.D. Baxter, the minister of McClintock, is a member of Pi Phi Chapter. The sermon will be delivered by the Rev. Tho mas Jenkins, also a member of Pi Phi Chapter. She said that she also likes the black comedy shows like “the Jeffersons,” "Good Times,” and “Sanford and Son.” Knowing how to enjoy life comes easy to our Beauty, but she also has strong convic tions and definite ideas. She Communicating Arts Society Plans Dinner The Charlotte Society of Communicating Arts will have their November dinner meet ing Friday, November 19th, 7:30 p.m. at the Red Carpet Inn on E. Morehead Street.
