The Board of Over seers is an advisory body to the Morehouse College Board of Trustees and to the Dean of the Program, Louis W. Sul lian, M.D. The Board of Over seers Chairman is Dr. Edgar E. Smith, Provost of the Uni versity of Massachusetts Me dical School. The Board of Overseers has a total membership of 31; members represent health providers, foundation and cor poration presidents, medical school administrators and ed ucators, and community ser vice organization leaders. A national body, the Board con venes twice yearly to receive reports on the progress of the school’s development and to lend expertise and assistance in areas such as curriculum development, facilities plan ning, fund raising, recruit ment, etc. The Medical Education Pro gram will begin in 1977-78 as a two-year school of the basic medical sciences. After the first two years of medical school, students will transfer into guaranteed places at de gree-granting institutions. These guarantees are being developed at Meharry Medi cal College, Howard Univer sity College of Medicine, and Emory University School of Medicine. In addition to receiving in struction in the basic medical sciences, students will receive training in areas conducive to’ encouraging them to become more sensitive to the needs of their patients and to prac tice in underserved areas.
