Coach Autry said that in order to have a good season, "We must rely on some of last year's vets like Vincent San ders, James Cunningham, Floyd Evans, and some new comers as well^' - Leading the attack against the Bulldogs for Smith will be last years CIAA top scorer Robert Lewis and Robert Ter ry. Lewis, 6'6" forward from Virginia, who averaged 28.( points per game last year, was not only leading scorer bul third leading rebounder in the CIAA with a total of 352. Coach Jerome Fitch, now in his third year at Smith, has said that there will probably be a new face starting for the Bulls in the person of fresh man guard Americua Adams. Last year the Bulls had an overall record of 13 wins and 14 loses, and ended up in fourth place in the southern division of the CIAA. The Sabers of Barber-Scotia College will be relying a lot this year on returning center Reginald Williams and for ward Em bee Shaw to keep their game entact. "Our returning players can give us the leadership and experience we need to go with th# youthful enthusiasm of the new players," Coach Aldoo Coefield said. Last year the Sabers had a record of 17-12. Coach Harvey Heartley of St. Augustine has a relatively young team led by senior forwards Addison "Sarge" In gram and Calvin Preston. SimFogle 1 Defends Title With Record Run In the district cross-country meet held at Guilford, N.C., Johnson C. Smith star runner Sim Fogle recently success fully defended his 1975 title with a record run of 27 min utes and 18 seconds. In the 30 degree weather, he ran the difficult five-mile stretch of woods, hills, and mud left by early morning showers to lead the Bulls to a second place finish. The junior, from Columbia, S.C., anchored the Bull team that finished with 43 points, 21 behind High Point College and 22 points ahead of St. Augus tine. Guilford finished with 88. State ace Warren Reynolds Faces Massive Rebuilding Task vji\cc,i>ao»jKU · ine North Carolina A&T basketball team captured the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference cham pionship for the fourth time in five seasons last year with an li-1 league record and a 20-6 overall mark. The highlight of the 75-76 season was participation in the National Invitational Tournament held in New York's Madison Square Gar den. It was the first appear ance for the university in a major post-season tourna ment. Coach Warren Reynolds will be faced with a massive re building task this season. Gone from last year's cham pionship team are four start ers and the sixth man. The most serious task facing Reynolds is finding a replace ment for center Sinclair Col bert who was among the na tion's top 15 rebounders.
