Pleasant Hill Choir To Perf or:'^ In Interdenominational Gosnel Concert ricasam mil Baptist Church Young Adult Choir is one of six area choirs that will be presented for the second annual Interdenominational Gospel Concert for Missions at First United Presbyterian Church, 501 N. Tryon St. This bicentennial edition of the concert is scheduled to be held Sunday, December 26 at 4 pm. Walter Holsey of 2327 English Drive is handling tic ket sales. Tickets are $1 for patrons, $5 for sponsors and $10 up for persons willing to buy program ads. Other choirs and their con ductors are Shiloh Institution al Baptist Gospel Singers, Tommie Campbell; First Mt. Zion Baptist Young Adult Choir, Mrs. Lonnie Miller; University Park Baptist Church Young Adult Choir, Beverly Ellis and McClintock United Presbyterian Young Adult Choir, led by Linda Hoover and Clyde Potts. Mrs. Jo Evelyn Liggett di rects Pleasant Hill. The Young Adult Choir was orga nized 16-years ago, according to information from the church. Musicians for the 50 member choir are pianist Mrs. Margie Patton and or ganist, Delores Massey. Over 1,000 copies of the album, “Prayer and Faith Work Together,” which was recorded by the choir, have been sold. The choir has tra veled to several nearby cities and as far as Knoxville, Tenn essee. A main activity of the choir is the observance of its anni versary on the fourth Sunday in-June of each year. Other choirs are invited to partici pate in this program as well as an annual concert sponsored by the choir. “We Are One” is the theme of the concert. Proceeds from tickets and contributions “will be sent to missions,” said a statement from the church. Mission areas were listed as evange lism, education, church per sonnel, justice issues of mino rities, human needs, minority institutions and self-develop •• ment projects. MATTHEWS UNITED METHODIST Two special Christmas pro grams wll be presented by the choirs of Matthews United Methodist Church on Decem ber 19. Music for choirs and guitar will be featured in the sanc tuary of the church at 11 a.m. Gregg Hill, a faculty mem ber at Winthrop College of Rock Hill, S.C., will play the guitar. Works include tradi tional carols as well as several English carols. A special ar rangement of Greensleeves (What Child Is This) will be featured with a contemporary American carol on the Eliza bethan text “What Sweeter Musik.” Additional performers in clude Francie Cauthen at vio lin, said music directress Ka ren Hite Jacob. Soloists for this service in clude Tyleta Cauthen, sopra no; Jeffrey Price, tenor; Francie Cauthen, violin; Dawn Brendle, flute and Bill Adams, trumpet. The Junior Choir, Genesis Choir and Chancel Choir plus various readers from the church congregation will par ticipate in this special service, said Ms. Jacob. PLEASANT HILL The Young Adult Choir of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, pastored by Rev. J.A. Cuth bertson, will appear in concert on Sunday, December 12 at 3 p.m. Mrs. Georgia Guest will be presented as the Choir’s spe cial guest. Mrs. Guest is the National Baptist Soloist and the General Baptist State Solo ist. Mrs. Joe E. Liggett is the Choir's director; Mrs. Margie Patton serves as the Choir’s pianist; and Miss Delores Massey is the organist. CANNON’S CATHEDRAL Evangelist Sam Todd of Des Moines, Iowa will conduct an Outreach For Christ series of services at Cannon's Cathe dral Church of God in Christ. Services will be held at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m., Sunday De cember 12. The minister will also speak at noon and 8 p.m. December 13-18. Elder E.C. Cannon, pastor of the church, announced the appearences. Rev. Todd has ministered in “more than 60 countries" and on five continents, according to information supplied to the POST. He is expected to talk about experiences in Korea, Chile, and behind the “iron curtain." Outreach services were des cribed as “bible based Christ centered preaching keyed to our times." GETHSEMANE AME ZION Nathaniel Watts will deliver his initial sermon Sunday, DecernDer 12, at 7 p.m., at Gethsemane AME Zion Church.
