D«vkl Beckham, Jr., 10, a fourth-grader at Oakdale Elementary School and the son of David and Maggie Beckham of 621 Milan Road in Garden City residential section has been named “Best Back Of The Year" on the Farm Team of the Coulwood-Oakdale Rams. David received "BEST BACK” trophy and a team trophy at the annual awards banquet last Friday night in the cafeteria of Coulwood Junior High School. Ram Fullback David Beck barn Jr. is Coached by Phil Hudson, Head Coach; J.B. Caldwell, David Barbee, Richard Henderson, and Wayne Moore and the team had a 6 and 2 record for their first year in Little League competition. David scored 22 touchdowns this year and plans to play again next year. He says his favorite Pro Football Players are O.J. Simpson and Franco Harris. JCSU Choir To Present Annual Vesper Concert By Melvetta Jenkins Post Staff Writer The Johnson C. Smith Uni versity Choir will present its Annual Christmas Vesper Ser \ vice on Sunday, December 12, : at 5:00 p.m. in the University * Church. The Choir will sing tradi tional Christmas carols in ad dition to “Praise Ye The * Name Of The Lord,” by (vgn * ov; “Virga Je«r,"'by firuck ner; “New Born,” a Christ mas spiritual by John Work; “Go Tell It On The Moun tain;” a motet called “In Mirth and In Gladness;" and the Hallelujah Chorus from “The Messiah.” Mrs. Edith R. Grady will present an organ recital at 4:30 p.m., immediately pre ceeding the Vesper Service. Members of the Choir who will do solo numbers include: Lorenzo Jenkins, baritone; Beverly Walker, contralto; Barbara White, soprano; and Michael Cooper, tenor. The Choir will be accom panied by Miss Cheryl Heard, the University Choir’s regu lar accompanist, who will' be assisted by Mrs. Betty Walk er,^'music instructor at Smith. Debbie, 17 year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Beck with, ranked as a profession al model after her graduation from the Troyanne Ross School of Modeling in May, 1376. — The course at Troyanne ran for six months and, in additioiP to enabling her to join the ranks of professional models, prepared her to teach model ing classes at West Charlotte High, Central Piedmont Mid dle School and the Discovery Class at Sears, where she once took a class. "I learned a lot about differ - ent modeling techniques at Troyanne,’’Debbie said. “And I really enjoy teaching the classes.” Debbie is getting very excit ed about the annual modeling convention which is being held this coming Spring in New York City.
