riDtninoi By Bob Johnson_; CHRISTMAS PARTY...With Christmas just around the next bend everyone seems to be in a festive type spirit. With this spirit in mind more parties and dances seem to spring up every where, and last weekend was no exception. _ U!- _ • «iv« v c uig yjcII” ties; little parties; long parties; short parties; all out parties; intimate parties; wet parties; dry parties; and then there was the Extraor dinaire’s party. Their second annual Christ mas bash to be exact. > Jimmy McKee’s Ex celsior Club was used to house this social gather ing last Friday night and the mood for the • - Bob Johnson evening was very light and cheerful. Even the proprietor, as hard and demanding as his job was that night managed a smile, especially when Stephen Hayes presented him with a plaque awarded him by the club, for his unselfish attitude toward, as he calls them his children. I. When the old clock on the perverbial wall indicated that it was time to leave the club, everybody was just beginning to jam. However, just like a magnetic force or bees following the queen, everybody migrated to the Allison’s home on Hidden Forest Drive where they continued to get down. Some of the people that were glad that Saturday was not a pretty day were Mr. and Mrs. Melvin White, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Cox, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Hayes, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Brown, Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Whaley, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Allison, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Shirley, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Reeves, Carolyn Hailey, Mr. and Mrs. Lamarr Pierce, Mr. and Mrs. James Evans, Mrs. W.L. Johnson Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Charles Foster, Bernadine Coles and Doris Massey. The very lovely young ladies that com prise the Statice Social Club, were doing theirs in the dining room downstairs. Many people helped these ladies celebrate their first anniversary dance and buffet, doing the Washin - Machine to the rhythm of the group Mellow Madnessjdining on scrumptious morsels, engaging in fun filled conversation and just generally doing the do. BOYD TEMPLE AFFAIR...Boyd Hill a community in Rock Hill, S.C. came alive with sound last Saturday night. The sound that filtered through the air came from the neighbor hood center. Plair’s band furnished the music for the fun had by Ozella McCoy, Sarah Boyd, Mary ftlvens, Robert McCoy, Lois Bryant, Annie Bell Massey, Ruth Vaughn, Freedy Thompson, Doris McCoy, and Bobby Thompson just to name a few. D.C. FUN...Mrs. Eva Wiley, her brother Cleophus Johnson and neice Yvonne Myers spent an enjoyable three day week-end in Washington, D.C. They visited their brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Johnson. Another brother, John D. Johnson of Duquesne, Pa., joined them in Washington on Thursday. Mrs. Wiley is becoming a regular commuter to the capital city. She is already working on something for Christmas, Duquesne, Pa., possi bly. HAPPINESS...The question, “Which is the happiest season of life,” being referred to an aged man, he replied: “When spring comes, and in the soft air that buds are breaking on the trees, and tney are covered wun Diossoms, 1 mins, mow beautiful is Spring! And when the summer comes and covers the trees with its heavy foliage, and singing birds are among the branches, I think, How beautiful is Summer! When autumn loads them with golden fruit, and thier leaves bear the gorgeous tint of frost, I think, How beautiful is Autumn! And when it is sere winter, and there is neither foliage nor fruit, then I look up through the leafless branches, as I never could until now, and see the stars shine.” The world owes all its onward impulses to men ill at ease. The happy man inevitably confines himself within ancient limits. The true meaning of life is to be free from anxieties, and to enjoy the present without any serious dependence on the future. . . k •• .ij . * l ■^“YOUNG ADULT MISSIONARY ...Mayfield Memorial Baptist Church . MMBC Youths Exemplify “Spirit Of Christmas” L>y vjaiut'ihd L/d.lOIl Special To The Post Considering all the commer cializing that seems to domi nate the Yuletide Season these days, it's nice to know that the sacred, peaceful, and most meaningful spirit of Christ mas is not lost, nor hidden in memories of years gone by. The light of peace, the joys of giving, and the harmonies of good will toW’ard men are alive and glowing in our hearts today. A unique group of young people shared the wonderful experience of giving their ta lents, their love and their energy to those less fortunate. These Young people, the Young Adult Missionaries of Mayfield Memorial Baptist Church, gave a Christmas dinner party for some 28 un derprivileged children be tween the ages of six and ten. The Missionaries, headed by Mrs. Ellen Johnson as presi dent, included Mrs. Betty Worthy, Mrs. Frances Ham lin, Mrs. Joyce Stukes, Ms. Peggy Wood, Mr. Ben Worthy, Mr. Robert Johnson, Mr. Wil lie Wilks, Mrs. Ruth Sadler, Mr. Tommie Sadler, Mrs. Bet ty Ervin, Mrs. Marylin Chi sholm, Mrs. Linda Butler. Mrs. Brenda Watts, Ms. Joyce Patterson, Ms. Veronica Da vis, Ms. Sylatha Burton, Mr. Warren Stukes, and Ms. Gar denia Dalton, joined by Rev. and Mrs. H.S. Diggs. Mrs. Frances Hamlin and ,.;Mrs. Peggy Wood led the children in Christmas songs 1C- ' HM ■ HK. Hie tinut w n lie uniner was being prepared. The Mission aries had never seen these children before, nor were the children familiar with each other, yet everyone blended in together with no reservations in such a remarkable way that illustrated what God and love are all about. It is a joy to see a happy child, and these child ren, for at least these few moments, were happy and it makes the heart glad Near the close of the occa sion, Mrs. Diggs presented the president, Mrs. Johnson with a Lifetime Membership Pen from the Women's Baptist Home and Foreign Missionary Convention of North Carolina This pen was a gift from the Young Adult Missionaries as a token of their appreciation for her serving through the years. Mrs. Johnson, along with Mr. Robert Johnson, and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Worthy were pro moted to the Senior Mission ary Dept. The Young Adults thank these four people for their contributions given over the years and pray that they will prove to be assets to the Senior Dept. A feeling of warmth filled the hearts as at the close when the children expressed their thanks for letting them be a part of the party. They were so humble and appreciative when given their presents. Love, Peace, Giving. Joy, Good-Will Toward Men. This is what Christmas is all about. Thank God for little Child ren.
