^MKiaTMAS TIME...What is Christmas?
When mothers bring their cookbooks out and
hunt for recipes; when little children strive to be
obedient and kind; when church bells ring rfrfd
chôîrs smg and music fills the air; when little
extra things are done to make somebody glajjt;
That's Christmas!
SOCIAL II FUN...The
Uptown Connection,
which is rapidly becom
ing the place to be for
disco's, was the scene of
a fantastic one Thurs
day night December 16.
Many brothers and
sisters were seen really
getting off and doing
their thing; among
them were Eleanor
Firms, Fran King, Son
nj Patterson, Eddie . .
Ward, Calvin Moragne,
Marilyn Doby, Wilma Firms, Jimmy Gaut, Tim
Kinard, Curlie Farr, Phil Watts, Brenda Tho
mas, Vivian McDaniels, Emma Firms, Archie
Hill, Priscilla McDaniels, Mike Conners, Wade
Webber, Doris Nesbitt, Deliccio Burroughs
visiting Charlotte from Baltimore, Lacy Mondes
and Rembrandt Brown.
CHRISTMAS GIVING.. J have always thought
of Christmas time, when it has come around, as a
good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable time, the
only time I know of in the long calendar of the
year, when men and women seem by one consent
to open their hearts freely.
The members of the Extraordinaire^ Social
and Civic Club did just that. The members of this
group gave individual gifts to the elderly people
at Aery's Rest Home, and serenaded them with
Christmas carols. They also gave baskets of food
to several indigent families, who wouldn't have
known the joys of Christmas, otherwise. God
bless you group!
CHRISTMAS PARTY...The Mecklenburg
Chapter of Las Amigas Incorporated held
their annual Christmas Gala last Saturday night,
in the Club Room of the Carolina Trad^ Mart.

Swine Flu To Kill 50,000?
Dt· Mnr>i _ . .
A swine flu epidemic this
winter without the govern
ment's immunization pro
gram could kill more tjian
50,000 Americans and cost the
nation S6 billion, a Harvard
medical school study says.
Researchers concluded that
if people take swine flu shots,
the mass vaccination program
will be a good financial invest
ment. When the study was
made, the çdds of such an
epidemic occuring were esti
mated at about one in 10.
The researchers estimated
that-tf a swine flu epidemic
spreads across the country,
more than 56 million persons -
or one-fourth of the popula
tion-would get the disease Of
these 50,000 would die, and 38
percent of the deaths would be
among people over 65, re
searchers state.
