DILAC Basketball Roundup MEAC Race Promises Excitement υ y il.<111 mason Special To The Post DURHAM — Now with teams in the Mid-Eastern Ath letic Conference beginning their conference schedules, the race for the conference championship and the top seeded for the upcoming 6th annual MEAC Basketball Tournament promises to be exciting. Following action in the lea gue last week three teams are undefeated with one other team having only one. loss. Morgan State and S.G. State stand at the top of the pack with 2-0 records while N.C. Central has a 2-1 family mark. Howard has a 1-1 league re cord while Maryland-Eastern Shore and N.C. A&T have 1-2 family worksheets. Delaware State is winless in three league conteste line a 12-game schedule this week in the MEAC. S.C. State will be the busiest team play ing three league opponents in a period of seven days. The Bulldgos will play host to North Carolina Central Thurs day and N.C. A&T Saturday. Other .family tussles thin week will match Howard at Maryland-Eastern Shore and Morten State at Delaware ' State Thursday and Howard at Delaware State Saturday evening. Morgan State, behind the 39-point performance by Eric Evans, defeated Maryland Eastern Shorç, 94-72 Wednes day. Saturday, the Bears nip ped-Howard, 78-74 in Washing ton, D.C. thanks to 20 points by Ivan Young. North Carolina Central won a pair of weekend league games and lost to S.C. State at home. The Eagles nipped SUftlUMUKU ED ROPER ...NCCU standout Maryland-Eastern Shore, 80 77 Friday night and outlasted Delaware State, 80-65 Satur day. Ed Roper scored 19 points for N.C. Central while Robert McClellan led the Ea gle scoring Saturday with 18 points. S.C. State dropped a pair of non-conference games last week. The Bulldogs fell to UNC —Wilmington Wednes day, 86-71 and dropped a 91-87 decision to Western Carolina Saturday. Howard, off to a very good start, dropped a pair of games last week. Norfolk State got revenge for an earlier loss to Howard by winning in over time, 92-89 Wednesday. Satur day the bison suffered their first league setback to Morgan State. A&T won its first game of the season Friday night turn ing back Delaware State, 44 41. Maryland-Eastern Shore won its first game of the campaign nipping A&T Satur day, 64-57. Independence Star Versatile Tommy Stillwell Wins Post's "Player Of The Week" Honors By James Cuthbertson Post Staff Writer At Independence his team mates refer to him as "old reliable" and he is one of the big reasons his team is perch ed upon the top of the South western 4-A Conference. With Independence locked into a tight game with Olym pic last Friday in the Patriots gym, he polished his double figures average with 25 points. Six feet five inch Stillwell thinks his Patriots are ready for a berth in the state tourna ment and could possibly "go all the way." Troubled in the first half, Independence jumped from a 37 all halftime score with Stillwell joining last ^week's Post "Player of the Week" Jack Planter and Reginald "Red" Wilson to lead the Patriots to their second vic tory of the year over the Trojans. Stillwell plays baseball in the summertime for one of the Mint Hill teams. Although interested in col lege, he is not sure which one he will attend and at the present is still making up his mind and reviewing "several choices."
