In order to compete, she said that an agent had to have at least 750 points and she had 989 points The points were determined by the number of annualized premiums an agent got through the year. A native of Lancaster, S.C., Mrs. Ligon has been in Char lotte for 19 years and at N.C. Mutual for the past three years. She said that she had been encouraged to apply by one of N.C. Mutual's staff members. Originally she had no interest in insurance work, but has found the job to be interesting, as well as rewarding. "I like the freedom to do as much and make as much as you want to as an agent," she said. "With N.C. Mutual you can do it. no matter who you are” The mother of three and the grandmother of one, Mrs. Li gon is a member of Friendship Baptist Church where she is on the Senior Usher Board. Some of her other activities include her affiliation with Elected Chapter 174 of East ern Star where she is the Financial Secretary, and the Agency Force at work, of which she is the first woman president. Mrs. Ligon is enrolled in the LUA where she is currently in her second year of study and anticipates her graduation in May. She said that the course will provide her with the knowledge needed to obtain a managerial position. She said that although she has thought about the possibility of apply ing for such a position, she sees it no where in the near future. When asked whether or not she aspires to compete for — Agent of the Year" for 1977, Mrs. Ligon laughed and said, “I'll try hard to do it again."
