Jack Benson Hosts Party For Classmates There were three days of festivities recently, to cele brate the 25th Class Reunion of the Second Ward High School Class of 1952. Jack “Chicken’' Benson got the ball rolling Thursday night, June 30, by hosting a party for former classmates and fri ends at the plush Radisson Plaza Hotel. Jack, who lives in Pittsburgh, Pa. and is a sales man for Koret of California, also was Master of Ceremo nies at the reunion program on Saturday evening. Hospitality Night for local participants and out of town class members was held on Friday night, July 1, at Duke’s Club on Lakewood Ave. Jean Stovall McDuffie, Clarence Rickett and William Barnette were the planners of this affair. The finale, and the bisaest event of the weekend, was the dinner and dance which took place on Saturday evening at Slug’s Tower Suite in the Jefferson First Union Plaza. A planned program was pre sented for the enjoyment of the class members and their guests. Each class member who attended and contributed to the reunion was presented a gold-plated, engraved cup as souvenir. Besides local parti cipants there were members present from Michigan, Penn sylvania, Connecticut, Wash ing, D.C. and Virginia. Officers of the class are: President-Betty Golden Hol loway, Vice-President - Jack Stovall, Secretary - Jean Sto vall McDuffie, Treasurer- Wil liam A. Barnette, Co-treasur er - Jeanette Mobley Grier, Sargeant-at-Arms - John Ro den and Social Committee - Esther Sturgis and Fannie Barber Harris. atcryiefere Retun To Freedom Park The second annual Story telling Festival will be held from 2 until 5 p.m., Saturday, July 16 in Freedom Park. Eight public library story tellers will gather near the lake to spin tales, sing songs, and play games. Last year’s program was a success with parents and children alike participating in the free activities. The festival is a celebration of the almo6t-lost art of story telling. Participants include summer storytellers Geralyn Buening, Diane Vaughn, Kath leen Ennis, and Ron Connelin as well as full-time members, of children’s services, Fran Clark, Jo Ann Rodgers, Linda McCraw, and Alvin Johnson. In case of rain, the program will be held from 2-5 p.m., Sunday, July 17. Sylvia, a rising senior at Independence High School who plans to become a compu ter programmer, is also inte rested in professional model ing. Sylvia is a member of New Emmanuel Congregational Church where she participates in the Thompson Singers group. Her hobbies consists of bowling, skating and travel ing. She has worked as a secretary ot tne “Helping Hand Maid Service” and as a bookkeeper for the Joy land Day Care Center. According to Sylvia, she inherited her queenship from her grandmother, Mrs. Queen Estell Thompson, who was crowned for her outstanding missionary work and leader ship ability in Mecklenburg County and for her service as a fashion coordinator. Sylvia has also been award ed the best modeler of the “Fashion and You" contest in 1974, and will serve as one of the leading models for the “Spirit of 77” fashion show to be held at the Greenville Center, Sunday, July 24, at 2 p.m. According to Ms. Ruby Ree ier Bradley, Baslieus of the Mu Chapter of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc., the pur pose of the organization is to recognize a developed talent and ability in youth. She said I the organization also spon sors a fund raising project for underpriviledged youth and senior citizens of Char lotte. C. M. Allen Receives Ceremonial Robe In a surprise move after a recent Sunday morning wor ship service. Usher Board No. 1 of Parkwood CME Institu tional Church presented the pastor, Rev. C M.
