Bridge Too Far
“The Making of ‘A Bridge
Too Far,” a special focusing
on the recently released movie
about a heroic but disasterous
military operation against the
Nazis in World War II, will be
presented on Channel _Nine
' Wednesday, August 31 at 10
p.m.
Featured in “The Making of
“A Bridge Too Far" are inter
views with some of the stars
speciaUy filmed for the tele
cast. On camera will be: Dirk
Bogarde, Michael Caine, Sean
Connery, Elliott Gould, Gene
Hackman, Anthony Hopkins,
Hardy Kruger, Laurence Oli
vier, Ryan O’Neal, Robert
Redford, Maximilian Schell

During the program, Red
ford says that, in his opinion,
wars are “inevitable”; Ull
man proclaims herself as a
pacifist; Caine (a British ve
teran) says he would bum his
draft card if called again for
military service; Hackman
admits he “couldn’t take the
discipline” of military life.
The motion picture, based
on the book by the late Corne
lius Ryan, recounts the bloody
1944 attempt to establish an
airborne bridgehead in Hol
land, with the focal point at
the arched bridge at Arnhem,
in an effort to shorten the war
against the Nazis.
