. I Miss Annette Davis, daughter of Mrs. Betty Davis of the Pitts Drive Apartments was crowned “Miss Charlotte Housing Authority” Friday, August 12 at West Charlotte High School. Sponsored by the Community Services Department of the cnariotte Housing Authority, the pageant in its second year was chaired by Mrs. Valerie C. Woodard. First runner up was Miss Brenda Howze, daughter of Mrs. Virginia Howze representing Southside Homes and Miss Rhonda Andrews, daughter of Mrs. Veronica Andrews of Fairview Homes was second runner up. Instructional TV Available To Parents Parents of public school children in C harlot te-Meck lenburg will be given the opportunity to look in on some instructional television that children in grades K-12 can , benefit from during the school ! day as part of their classroom activities as a result of the cooperative efforts of the UNC-TV Network and the State Department of Public Instruction. Four evenings in September the UNC-TV Network with the state education agency will show teachers, school admin istrators, parents, and others that instructional television offers high-quality program ming for students in the class room. “School Television Pre views" will feature TV series for grades K-6 on Monday and Tuesday, September 5-6, from 8 - 9 p.m. A different one-hour program will be shown each evening. Instructional televi I-1 sion for students in junior and senior high schools will be previewed the following week on Monday and Tuesday, Sep tember 12 - 13. A different special preview program will be aired each evening from 8 - 9 p.m. ., t County Government Tours Provide First-Hand Experience First hand experiences were provided for more than 1,300 students in Charlotte-Meck lenburg Schools this year who participated in tours of local government offices. Among the sites included on tours were: Education Center, County Office Building, Court House, Law Enforcement Cen ter, Department of Social Ser vices, Spirit Square, local parks, Public Library and others. Sites included on the tours are selected to meet the needs of each class, including elementary, junior high and m. senior high students. The tours have helped make students more aware of the organization and services of local government. Some tea chers have already scheduled tours for next fall, according to Margaret Stone, Mecklen burg County Assistant Public Service and Information Offi cer. The tours are a part of a program developed this year by Mecklenburg County Gov ernment and the school sys tem. She also inquired about his views on the “Bom Again” movement, Sun Yung Moon, and Anita Bryant’s crusade against ho mosexuals.
