Walter Tucker MFB vice president Walter Tucker To Attend NBA Convention By Jeri Harvey Post Staff Writer Walter Tucker, Vice Presi dent of Mechanics and Farm ers Bank, will attend the 50th ^nnual convention of the Na tional Bankers Association (NBA) when it meets in Hous ton, Texas October 11 - 15. Tucker served a term as president of the group in 1971. With a theme ot "Fifty Years of Service," the conven-r tion is expected to be one of the largest in the Association’s history. All meetings will be held at the Sheraton-Houston Hotel. NBA also includes banks owned by women. Co-hosts of the convention 1 are Dr. Carl M. Carroll, Pre sident, Riverside National Bank, and Clarance Calloway, Director, King State Bank, both of Houston. Among the convention key note speakers are Vernon Jor dan, Executive Director of the National Urban League, and John & Heimann, Comptroll er of the Currency. Jordan, who will speak at the opening session on Wednesday morn ing, October 12, will report on the recent Black leadership summit meeting and outline the crises facing blacks, other minorities and the poor. NBA President James C. Purnell, President, Liberty Bank of Seattle, described the convention agenda as ‘sub stantive and serious.” “Minority banks, as is the minority community, are fac ing some critical issues which will be discussed with key representatives of the Carter Administration, the Federal Government and private in dustry. We will take a close - look at the state of the econo my and, more specifically, how to improve and streng then the financial position of our minority banks,” Purnell said. Other subject areas which will be discussed at the con vention include: "Marketing the Minority Bank Deposit Program - Initiatives by the Department of the Treasury,” “Characteristics of High Earning Banks,” “The Out look for Business, Banking, and Bank Capital,” “The Pre sent Economy-How It Affects Small Banks,” and “Execu tive Stress.
