Martin Sr. Po6t Executive Editor Jim Black, who lost a bid for the Democratic mayoral nom ination in the primary recent ly, is nevertheless continuing to play a role in who will be the city’s next mayor. On the strength of having carried all of Charlotte’s 18 predominant ly black precincts, in spite of an endorsement for front-run ner Jim Whittington by the Black Political Caucus, Black is actively attempting to use his success to influence black voters in the November 8 mayoral election. *+* "T "T The National Secretaries Association listed among its “10 Most Exciting Men in the Country” last week Los Ange les Mayor Tom Bradley and base-stealing baseball star Lou Brock, of the St. Louis Cardinals. + + + Carrying 60 percent of the total vote enabled Maynard Jackson, 39, to win a second term as Mayor of the City of Atlanta last week. Jackson combined 90 percent of the black vote to get his victory margin. Atlanta is 55 percent black. Three days after his election victory, Mayor Jackson cap tured a new bride, Valerie Richardson of Richmond, Va. They will honeymoon in Fran ce. T T T In spite of earlier efforts by the Charlotte Area Funds boa rd to drop Arthur Lynch from . their ranks. Councilman Har vey B. Gantt nominated Lynch last week for an additional one year term. With apparently no “second” for the motion com ing, Councilman Neil C. Wil liams suggested that the mat ter be deferred for two weeks. The council agreed. ■+• + +P Dewitt Jordan Jr., 44, one of the South's best-known black artists - murals and portrait paintings - was fatally wound ed by a 21-year-old gunman on Sunday night in Memphis, Tenn. Jordan gained recognition for his mural tracing the history of Memphis from its early beginnings as an Indian village to contemporary times. Reportedly, the mural was commissioned for Mem phis' top of the 100 club in the 1960s. + + + A Presidential Task Force on civil rights reorganization told President Carter this past weekend, “that discrimina tion in employment...is still a pervasive phenomenon in A merican life.” + + + During a visit to Fayette ville last week to visit her daughter, “Miss Lillian” Car ter, 79, said, 'Tve been a Dodger fan for more than 35 years.
